Notes:
Two similar, fully substituted cellulose derivatives, phenylurethane and 3-chlorophenylurethane of cellulose, and mixtures of various ratios thereof in a common solvent were investigated in the lyotropic liquid-crystalline phase. Helicoidal structures of different handedness were found with regard to the two binary liquid-crystalline systems. Compatibility of the considered ternary system may be concluded from a structural investigation in the high and low composition range with regard to one cellulose derivative component and incompatibility of the lyotropic liquid-crystalline system in the medium composition range. Structural features of the ternary system at elevated temperatures were evaluated by a turbidimetric study.
