Abstract It is shown that in comparison with phorbol myristate and the calcium ionophore A23187, phosphatidylcholine liposomes less effectively induce the formation of superoxide radical in human peripheral blood monocytes. The efficiency of liposomes moderately increase after incorporation of 1,2-diacylglycerol and gangliosides, but not of esterified fatty acids.
