Notes: The losses associated with leakage through thin-film superconductors with film thickness comparable to the skin depth in the normal state, and to the penetration depth in the superconducting state, are described. The method is used to describe the surface resistance of YBa2Cu3O7 films deposited on various substrates.

Notes: The penetration depth and surface resistance of a superconductor depend upon the superfluid current density. This dependence gives rise to nonlinear mixing in a superconducting microstrip resonator. Here we discuss the problem of intermodulation in which two signals at ω1 and ω2, laying within the pass band of a microstrip cavity resonance, mix and generate a signal at 2ω1−ω2. An expression relating the power generated at 2ω1−ω2 to the power transmitted at ω1 and ω2 is given. We focus on the high-Tc superconductors where it is believed that the order parameter has dx2−y2 symmetry. We find for a resonator with a large unloaded Q that intermodulation arises dominantly from the reactive nonlinear inductance of the superconducting film. © 1997 American Institute of Physics.

Notes: We calculate the intermodulation power for a superconducting microstrip resonator arising from the intrinsic microscopic nonlinearities. We focus on high-Tc superconductors where it is believed that the order parameter has dx2−y2 symmetry. A characteristic upturn of the intermodulation power is found at low temperatures. We discuss different ways to reduce intermodulations by changing the geometry of the microstrip. © 1996 American Institute of Physics.

Notes: The intermodulation power and quality factor Q of high-Tc superconducting microstrip resonators with different shapes is calculated. Acute corners increase the losses and the intermodulation power. The influence of normal conducting regions is investigated. The case of two microstrips carrying in phase or out of phase currents is also studied. The losses and the intermodulation power are significantly reduced if the currents are in phase in the two microstrips compared to the mode with out of phase currents. © 1997 American Institute of Physics.

Notes: Nuclear magnetic resonance experiments on the planar CuO2 materials related to high-Tc superconductors suggest that the doped holes are formed from the strongly hybridized Cu(3d)-O(2pσ) orbitals. Within this picture the doped metallic state can be viewed as a strongly interacting quantum liquid, with a dynamic spin susceptibility that reflects the local correlations produced by the Coulomb interactions. It is demonstrated that much of the essential observed behavior is predicted by a simple 2D Hubbard model within the RPA, with a suitable choice of parameters, and the physical implications of these parameters are discussed. The nuclear relaxation rates T−11 at various nuclear sites are calculated. The form factors of the hyperfine interaction act to spatially filter the spin susceptibility. In particular, the O form factor suppresses the antiferromagnetic fluctuations which dominate the relaxation of Cu nuclei, thereby reducing T−11 at O relative to that of Cu, as observed.

Notes: Random sequential absorption (RSA) represents an important kinetic limit for structural formation which leads to significantly different properties from that obtained under thermal equilibrium adsorption. Here we present results for the maximal coverage θJ obtained from numerical simulation of RSA on various lattices and discuss their relationship in terms of a soluble 1D model.

Notes: Abstract We have studied the enhancement of superconductivity due to a small concentration of local phonon impurities using a new method. The method combines diagrammatic perturbation theory and Monte Carlo simulation. This method allows us fully to take into account the retarded nature of the interactions and hence study in detail the interplay between the electron-phonon systems of the host and the impurities.
