    Description: This paper presents a system developed at NASA Langley Research Center to render aircraft flyovers in a virtual reality environment. The present system uses monaural recordings of actual aircraft flyover noise and presents these binaurally using head tracking information. The three-dimensional audio is simultaneously rendered with a visual presentation using a head-mounted display (HMD). The final system will use flyover noise synthesized using data from various analytical and empirical modeling systems. This will permit presentation of flyover noise from candidate low-noise flight operations to subjects for psychoacoustical evaluation.

    Description: The International Space Station (ISS) living areas receive the preponderance of ionizing radiation exposure from Galactic Cosmic Rays (GCR) and geomagnetically trapped protons. Practically all trapped proton exposure occurs when the ISS passes through the South Atlantic Anomaly (SAA) region. The fact that this region is in proximity to a trapping mirror point indicates that the proton flux is highly directional. The inherent shielding provided by the ISS structure is represented by a recently-developed CAD model of the current 11-A configuration. Using modeled environment and configuration, trapped proton exposures have been analytically estimated at selected target points within the Service and Lab Modules. The results indicate that the directional flux may lead to substantially different exposure characteristics than the more common analyses that assume an isotropic environment. Additionally, predictive capability of the computational procedure should allow sensitive validation with corresponding on-board directional dosimeters.

    Description: The On-Line Tool for the Assessment of Radiation In Space (OLTARIS) is a World Wide Web based tool that assesses the effects of space radiation on humans and electronics in items such as spacecraft, habitats, rovers, and spacesuits. This document explains the basis behind the interface and framework used to input the data, perform the assessment, and output the results to the user as well as the physics, engineering, and computer science used to develop OLTARIS. The transport and physics is based on the HZETRN and NUCFRG research codes. The OLTARIS website is the successor to the SIREST website from the early 2000's. Modifications have been made to the code to enable easy maintenance, additions, and configuration management along with a more modern web interface. Overall, the code has been verified, tested, and modified to enable faster and more accurate assessments.

    Description: 3DHZETRN-v2 includes a detailed three dimensional (3D) treatment of neutron/light-ion transport based on a quasi-elastic/multiple-production assumption allowing improved agreement of the neutron/light-ion fluence compared with results of three Monte Carlo (MC) codes in the sense that the variance with respect to the individual MC results is less than the variance among the MC code results. The current numerical methods are no longer the main limitation to HZETRN code development and further changes in the nuclear model are required. In a prior study, an improved quasi-elastic spectrum based on a solution of the transport approximation to nuclear media effects showed promise, but the remaining multiple-production spectrum was based on a database derived from the Ranft model that used Bertini multiplicities. In the present paper, we will implement a more complete Serber first step into the 3DHZETRN-v2 code, but we retain the Bertini-Ranft branching ratios and evaporation multiplicities. It is shown that the new Serber model in the 3HZETRN-v2 code reduces the variance with individual MC codes, which are largely due to nuclear cross section model differences.
