    Description / Table of Contents: Bridged Tetraphenylene SystemsBridging of tetraphenylene (1) with 1-4 carbonyl or methylene groups leads to the new polycycles 3-6 and 20-24. Reaction of the doubly bridged tetraphenylene 6 with two equivalents of butyllithium affords the violet-blue dianion 30. This can be trapped with methyl iodide to give 4,11-dimethyl-4,11-dimethyl-4,11-dihydrodicyclopenta[def, pqr]tetraphenylen (31).
    Notes: Die Verbrückung von Tetraphenylen (1) mit 1 bis 4 Carbonyl- oder Methylengruppen führt zu den neuartigen Polycyclen 3-6 und 20-24. Umsetzung des doppelt verbrückten Tetraphenylens 6 mit zwei Äquivalenten Butyllithium liefert das violettblaue Dianion 30, das nach Umsetzung mit Methyliodid als 4,11-Dimethyl-4,11-dihydrodicyclopenta[def,pqr]tetraphenylen (31) abgefangen werden kann.

    Description / Table of Contents: An ortho-meta Coupled HexaphenyleneHexaphenylene 5, whose benzene rings are connected to each other in the o,m,o,o,m,o-positions, has been synthesized. Of the two possible atropisomers 5a and 5b, each with two benzene rings lying face to face, 5a was identified by H1-NMR spectroscopy.
    Notes: Es wurde das Hexaphenylen 5 synthetisiert, dessen Benzolkerne o,m,o,o,m,o-ständig miteinander verknüpft sind. Von seinen Atropisomeren 5a und 5b, in deren Molekülbereich zwei Benzolkerne planar übereinander liegen, erwies sich laut H1-NMR-Spektroskopie 5a als zutreffend.

    Description / Table of Contents: Thermal Decomposition of 2,2′-Biphenylylene(phenyl)iodine and Similar CompoundsThermolysis of 2,2′-biphenylylene(phenyl)iodine (4) gives mainly 2-iodo-m-terphenyl (5). Decomposition of the reaction product from 2,2′-biphenylyleneiodonium iodide (10) and methyllithium yields 2-iodo-2′-methylbiphenyl (12) and 2-iodobiphenyl (14). Compound 10 reacts with lithium aluminium hydride to give high yields of biphenyl.
    Notes: Die Thermolyse von 2,2′-Biphenylylen(phenyl)jod (4) liefert in der Hauptsache 2-Jod-m-terphenyl (5). Die Zersetzung des aus 2,2′-Biphenylylenjodoniumjodid (10) mit Methyllithium erhaltenen Reaktionsprodukts führt zu 2-Jod-2′-methylbiphenyl (12) und 2-Jodbiphenyl (14). Mit Lithiumaluminiumhydrid reagiert 10 in hohen Ausbeuten zu Biphenyl.

    Description / Table of Contents: Aqueous solutions of o-dihydroxy-arylenes react with colloidal silicic acid, solid SiO2 or even quartz forming dimeric silicic acid esters with a content of three moles of arylene per silicium (arylene components see „Inhaltsübersicht“). The properties of these esters are described.The thermal decompositions of some esters have been investigated.
    Notes: o-Dihydroxyarylene reagieren in wässerigen Lösungen mit Kieselsäuresol oder festem SiO2, selbst mit Quarz unter Bildung von beständigen Kieselsäureestern. Verbindungen mit den folgenden o-Dihydroxyarylen-Komponenten wurden dargestellt: Brenzcatechin, Methylbrenzcatechin, 3,4-Dihydroxybenzaldehyd, 3,4-Dihydroxybenzoesaure 2,3-Dihydroxybenzoesäure, 2,3-Dihydroxynaphthalin, Pyrogallol, Gallussäure, Alizarin, Purpurin, Quercetin und Gerbsäure. Das Verhältnis o-Dihydroxykomponente: Silicium ist 3 : 1. Die Ester sind dimer.Die Produkte des thermischen Abbaus einiger Kieselsäureester werden untersucht.Isotypiebetrachtungen und Mischkristallbildung mit den entsprechenden Verbindungen von Titan, Germanium, Zinn und Zirkon legen die Vermutung nahe, daß in den Salzen der Hexa-dihydroxy-bis-Kieselsäureester die Siliciumatome die Koordinationszahl 6 gegen Sauerstoff betätigen.
