In Cd(BrO3)2⋅2H2O single crystals γ irradiated at 300 K, BrO2 and O−3 centers are observed. A correlation between the ESR and optical absorption studies has revealed that the optical absorption band for BrO2 lies around 470 nm. After γ irradiation at 77 K, a complex defect center identified as H⋅⋅⋅BrO3⋅⋅⋅HO could be observed. The chemical inequivalence and the effect of thermal or UV light bleaching on the populations of these centers are discussed.
