Abstract Small-scale turbulence measurements above the top of the boundary layer in Hurricane Eloise (1975) showed an anomalous peak in the power spectrum of horizontal velocity fluctuation at a scale of 20 cm. Double diffusive convection is suggested as the most reasonable explanation for the presence of the peak.
