Notes: Abstract Recent work, quoted in the introduction, concerning a scale covariant theory of gravitation and corresponding astrophysical tests, has called for a revival of the geometrical considerations put forward by Weyl half a century ago, together with a better understanding of the mathematical foundation of Weyl's geometry. The present paper is to be regarded as a contribution in that direction.

Notes: [Auszug] The necessary and sufficient condition for the generation of turbulence has been often discussed. The presence of shear is a necessary but not sufficient condition; the Richardson criterion5 has also to be satisfied. But, when account6-8 is taken of the heat exchange between the moving fluid and ...

Notes: [Auszug] In the e-mechanism, the thermodynamic cycle driving the pulsation can be described as follows. Heat is generated during the contraction of the core, thus increasing the temperature and therefore the rate of nuclear energy generation, e. The release of extra energy in turn produces expansion above ...

Notes: Abstract 3He is an intermediate product in the proton-proton chain, and standard models of the Sun predict a large bulge of enhanced 3He abundance near M r /M 0 = 0.6 in the contemporary Sun. The relatively low abundance of 3He at the solar surface, which is derived from solar wind observations, poses severe constraints to non-standard solar models. Direct measurements of the 3He abundance in the solar atmosphere are extremely difficult, whereas indirect measurements, e.g., in the solar wind, have been performed with considerable precision. The interpretation of solar wind observations with respect to solar surface abundances has been greatly improved in recent years. Abundance measurements have been performed under a large variety of solar wind conditions and refined models have been developed for the transport processes in the chromosphere and the transition region and for the processes occurring in the solar corona. From these measurements we estimate the present isotopic number ratio 3He/4He to be (4.1 ± 1.0) × 10−4 at the solar surface, corresponding to the weight abundance X 3 = (9.0 ± 2.4) × 10−5. The zero-age Main-Sequence abundance of 3He (after burning of D) might have been slightly lower (by about 10 to 20%) than the present-day value. Non-standard solar models involving mild turbulent diffusion (Lebreton and Maeder, 1987) could account for a slow secular increase of the 3He/4He ratio in the solar atmosphere. On the other hand it is difficult to reconcile models with severe mass loss as proposed by Guzik, Willson, and Brunish (1987) with this constraint. The slowing down of the solar rotation during the early Main-Sequence evolution was accompanied by stronger differential rotation probably implying a more effective mixing of the inner parts. Again, the surface abundance of 3He imposes severe limits on the evolution of the distribution of momentum within the early Sun.

Notes: Abstract We firstly examine the critical model assumptions for massive stars, in particular regarding mixing, mass loss and metallicity. The comparisons of models and observations for main sequence stars reveal some interesting problems, such as the lack of O-stars close to the zero-age sequence, the so-called helium and mass discrepancies. We emphasize that this last discrepancy was probably due to the unsafe atmosphere modelling used by spectroscopists. The comparisons for supergiants enlighten a number of most interesting problems: the He and CNO abundances in blue supergiants, the distribution of supergiants in the HR diagram and above all the variations of the blue to red number ratios with metallicity. Then, we examine the properties and chemistry of WR stars and the observations and interpretations concerning the great changes of WR numbers in galaxies of different metallicites. Finally, we emphasize the main WR filiations.

Description / Table of Contents: Résumé Les auteurs redécrivent P. mangenoti et décrivent 3 nouvelles espèces de Polystomatidae parasites d'Amphibiens anoures en Afrique occidentale.
Notes: Summary The authors redescribe P. mangenoti and describe 3 new species of Polystomatidae from frogs in West Africa. These four species related to P. africanum Szidat, 1932 are characterized by their general proportions, the shape of the hamuli and by the outline of the gut. Each species of Polystoma is specific for a given host. The presence of frogs of the genera Afrixalus and Phrynobatrachus as hosts for Polystoma is new.
