Notes: [Auszug] Studying the solubility of the denaturation product ('alkaline haematinglobin') in increasing concentrations of ammonium sulphate we found that it behaves like other proteins. The logarithm of the dissolved substance falls linearly with increasing salt concentration (Fig. 1). It can be seen, that ...

Notes: Summary A method is described for isolation of the granula from human eosinophils. The eosinophile leucocytes are separated on the basis of their osmotic resistance and subsequently lysed with distilled water and a wetting agent.

Notes: Summary A method is described for isolation of Charcot-Leyden crystals from high eosinophil-count blood specimens or from eosinophil rich exudates. Once the crystals have been formed, isolation is accomplished by lysing the blood cells with an enzyme and a wetting agent.

Notes: Summary From a series of 163 haemolysates from infants in their first year of life, 60 contained a minute haemoglobin fraction with the electrophoretic mobility of Hb Alexandra. The abnormal haemoglobin was visible in all cases only after benzidine staining. The highest frequency is found during the 2nd and 3rd month of life and concurs with the appearance of Hb A2. Spectrophotometric analysis of the abnormal fraction reveals the typical picture of oxyhaemoglobin.

Notes: Summary A simple apparatus for starch block electrophoresis is described. The cooling element consists of a commercially available cold plate in metal. If oxyhaemoglobin is used, an error in measurement by the instability of the haemoglobin solutions can be reduced by adding small amounts of KCN, not only to the initial haemolysate, but also to the haemoglobin fractions which were eluted.

Notes: Summary A phage specific for Proteus X 19 and X 2 strains is described. The secondary growth appearing after lysis of OX 19 cultures is devoid of the X-Antigen reacting with typhus sera. The phage is inactive against Proteus OXK.

Notes: Summary Heterologous transplantation of tumors is made possible by pretreatment of the recipients with X-rays or Cortisone. Using the transplantation of the mouse Crocker sarcoma S180 on young rats, active or passive immunisations hinder the growth of these tumors even though the hosts were pretreated with Cortisone or X-rays. Acquired immune bodies seem to play a most important role in the destruction of heterologous tumors. Of minor significance are natural resistance, inflammatory reaction, formation of granulation and fibrous tissue. The influence of Cortisone and X-rays on heterologous tumor transplants consists in suppressing immune body formation. Once immune bodies are formed, Cortisone and X-rays have no effect on their action. Passive transfer of transplantation immunity was made by transplanting lymphnodes, draining the tumor implant.
