Abstract The interaction ofCF3CF2OCF2CF3 and CF3OCF3 with high-surface-areaAl2O3, TiO2, and SiO2were studied by FTIR. Under vacuum conditions, it was found that adsorbed fluoroethers thermally oxidized to fluorinated formate and acetate on Al2O3, to a lesser extent onTiO2, and not at all on SiO2. Reaction mechanism and implications for tribology are discussed.
