Notes: It will be shown that, in the weak coupling limit, the matrix elements in the collective number vectors of the evolution in the interacting picture of a quantum system coupled to a quasifree Fermion bath with a laser type interaction, converge to the matrix elements in some number vectors, of a unitary quantum stochastic process satisfying a quantum stochastic differential equation driven by a Fermion Brownian motion with covariance uniquely determined by the initial Fermion bath.

Notes: The weak coupling limit of a "system+reservoir'' model with nonlinear (quadratic) interaction is discussed. In a previous paper [Accardi and Lu, Stoch. Process. Phys. Geom., 1–26], it has been shown that, if the matrix elements of the van Hove rescaled evolution are taken with respect to the same collective vectors used for linear interactions, then the limiting evolution is not unitary. In the present paper, we choose a new type of collective vectors and obtain, in the weak coupling limit, a unitary evolution satisfying a quantum stochastic differential equation. A remarkable feature of the limiting process is that the quadratic nature of the interaction shows up in a nontrivial choice of the Hilbert space where the limiting quantum noise takes its values, which is qualitatively new with respect to all the models considered up to now.

Notes: In this article, the feasibility of atomic force microscope (AFM) scanning moiré on a cross-line diffraction grating has been studied. The AFM scanning moiré technique has been applied to measure the thermal deformation of electronic packages successfully. This technique is convenient to perform the mismatch method, also it could obtain a higher resolution than any other moiré method. © 2001 American Institute of Physics.

Notes: Abstract We study a nonrelativistic quantum system coupled, via a quadratic interaction [cf. formula (1.10) below], to a free Boson gas in the Fock state. We prove that, in the low density limit (z 2=fugacity→0), the matrix elements of the wave operator of the system at timet/z 2 in the collective coherent vectors converge to the matrix elements, in suitable coherent vectors of the quantum Brownian motion process, of a unitary Markovian cocycle satisfying a quantum stochastic differential equation driven by some pure number process (i.e. no quantum diffusion part and only the quantum analogue of the purely discontinuous, or jump, processes). This proves that the number (or quantum Poisson) processes, introduced by Hudson and Parthasarathy and studied by Frigerio and Maassen, arise effectively as conjectured by the latter two authors as low density limits of Hamiltonian models.

Notes: Abstract In the present paper, the basic ideas of thestochastic limit of quantum theory are applied to quantum electro-dynamics. This naturally leads to the study of a new type of quantum stochastic calculus on aHilbert module. Our main result is that in the weak coupling limit of a system composed of a free particle (electron, atom,...) interacting, via the minimal coupling, with the quantum electromagnetic field, a new type of quantum noise arises, living on a Hilbert module rather than a Hilbert space. Moreover we prove that the vacuum distribution of the limiting field operator is not Gaussian, as usual, but a nonlinear deformation of the Wigner semi-circle law. A third new object arising from the present theory, is the so-calledinteracting Fock space. A kind of Fock space in which then quanta, in then-particle space, are not independent, but interact. The origin of all these new features is that we do not introduce the dipole approximation, but we keep the exponential response term, coupling the electron to the quantum electromagnetic field. This produces a nonlinear interaction among all the modes of the limit master field (quantum noise) whose explicit expression, that we find, can be considered as a nonlinear generalization of theFermi golden rule.

Notes: Abstract We show that, in the weak coupling limit, the laser model process converges weakly in the sense of the matrix elements to a quantum diffusion whose equation is explicitly obtained. We prove convergence, in the same sense, of the Heisenberg evolution of an observable of the system to the solution of a quantum Langevin equation. As a corollary of this result, via the quantum Feynman-Kac technique, one can recover previous results on the quantum master equation for reduced evolutions of open systems. When applied to some particular model (e.g. the free Boson gas) our results allow to interpret the Lamb shift as an Ito correction term and to express the pumping rates in terms of quantities related to the original Hamiltonian model.

Notes: Abstract After having recalled some definitions concerning quantum stochastic processes and, in particular, quantum Brownian motions, a general scheme is introduced which allows a unified approach to the weak coupling and singular coupling limits. The analogies and differences between the two are discussed. The main difference consists of the fact that, in the singular coupling limit, the use of a Hamiltonian unbounded below seems to be unavoidable, while this is not the case for the weak coupling limit.
