Notes: The antibacterial effect of butylated hydroxyanisole (BHA) was evaluated in laboratory media and in two foods. In nutrient broth growth of Bucillus species (three strains of B. cereus, two of which were enterotoxigenic, and one strain each of B. subtilis and B. megaterium) was inhibited by 75 ppm of BHA. In tests with food systems growth inhibition of vegetative cells of these organisms required 1000 ppm in cooked rice and 5000 ppm in strained chicken. The effect of BHA was bacteriostatic at the tested levels (≤ 200 ppm in laboratory media and ≤ 10,000 ppm in the food systems), and viable cells were recovered from all samples. Bacterial growth resumed in samples which contained bacteriostatic levels of BHA after dilution with antioxidant free broth or food.

Notes: Abstract Crystallization of hydrogenated amorphous silicon (a-SI:H) has been initiated using ultrashort laser-pulse train annealing. Optical microscopy, infrared absorption, Raman spectroscopy and photoluminescence measurements show that in our experiment the crystallized layer is localized on the surface and is non-epitaxial. The depth of the crystalline layer and its surface morphology are discussed. A sharp luminescence band at 0.970 eV with fine structure is found after laser annealing and is identified as a recombination center similar to irradiation induced defects in crystalline Si.

Notes: When using the formed milling cutter to machine workpiece, the formed parts are cut bythe milling with formed shape, so forms correspond to workpiece outline. In the 3D designsoftware--SolidWorks, the relation of position of the workpiece profile and the milling each other issimulated. This project uses the function of 3D-shape of software to complete the 3D-entity-designof formed milling cutter profile and the drawing of rake face, thus designing the rake face profiledirectly, with the results of a great improvement on the design and machining quality andeffectiveness

Notes: Abstract The phase equilibria and structures in the system glycerol, sodium dodecyl sulfate and decanol were determined using visual observation, optical microscopy, and low angle X-ray diffraction. The results showed the presence of an isotropic liquid alcohol solution of the surfactant and the glycerol, a lamellar liquid crystalline phase and a small region of an isotropic glycerol solution.

Notes: Abstract We have analyzed and measured the thermal lens of the copper-vapor laser by considering both its windows and active medium. The equivalent combined focal length varies with operation parameters and it is sensitive to the laser geometry. The results are verified by our measurements on a 20 W device with 35 mm internal diameter tube. The thermal lens effects on the beam properties are analyzed and verified with the experiments for both oscillator and laser chain case.

Description: The Electromagnetic (EM) fields excited by a vertical electric dipole (VED) at the ultra-low frequency (ULF) have been widely used in different studies such as space weather, earthquake predictions, geophysical investigations, and communications. Algorithms are essential for estimations of worldwide EM fields. Spherical coordinates are widely used in these studies as the curvature of the earth cannot be ignored. The ULF EM fields are usually expressed by series of spherical harmonics, including spherical Bessel and Hankel functions. There are overflow problem when separately estimating values of spherical harmonics and divergence problem when evaluating summation of series expression of ULF EM fields. This study proposes a new algorithm to calculate EM fields excited by a VED embedded in a layered spherical model. The ULF EM fields are expressed by normalized spherical Bessel/Hankel functions, where a set of local/general reflection and transmission coefficients is defined to describe propagations of EM fields in each spherical layer. The normalized spherical Bessel/Hankel functions are not only useful to overcome the overflow problem in calculations of spherical Bessel/Hankel functions but also helpful to accelerate the convergence of calculations EM fields as the normalized expressions mitigate small oscillations terms. The proposed method is benchmarked with the existing method. Effects of frequency, daytime and night time, height of air layer, and conductivity of air layer and ionosphere on EM fields are discussed.
