Description: We present in this paper a study on the reproduction of T.trachurus and T.mediterraneus from tunisian coasts. We are interested especially in the determination of the spawning season, the first sexual maturity and the fecundity. The study of the sexual cycle is based on the evolution of the nucleoplasmic ratio. The determination of this ratio and the measurements of ovocyte diameters are based on histologic sections gonads. The fecundity of T.trachurus being complicated by ovocytes resorption before and after laying, hence we determined relative and partial fecundities.

Description: Bluefish, Pomatomus saltator, were sampled from the gulf of Tunis. Some anatomic and meristic characters were used in this study. The first dorsal fin counts 8 spines in all juveniles. Frequently the eighth spine, the most posterior, sinks and becomes embedded in the body muscle, or reaborbed completely in adults. Gill raker counts were made on the first branchial arch. The number of gill rakers decreases when the size of the fish increases. The rate of loss is greater in young fish than in older fish. The number of vertebrae is constant (26) for all sizes.

Description: In our study length-weight relationship are presented for 213 Phycis phycis and 270 Phycis blennoides caught between September 2007 and August 2008 and collected from trawler fishing in the Gulf of Tunis. The lengthweight relationships and the condition factor were computed separately for sexes and for different seasons. The parameters of the length-weight relationship for the population as a whole are all well correlated (r2 〉 0.92, p 〈0.001). The type of growth is isometric for P. phycis while it is majorant allometry for P. blennoides. The comparison of the regression of the weight according to the total length of males and females, of the two species, shows that the growth is therefore identical. The study of seasonal variations indicates that the slope did not differ significantly (p 〉 0.05) between seasons for P. phycis. However, it differs significantly (p 〈 0.05) for P. blennoides; during the summer season, autumn and winter, where the growth is isometric; however in the spring it presents a majoran allometry. The condition factor was calculated according to sex and months and confirmed respectively these results.

Description: Throughout the year, M. barbatus and M. surmuletus feed on crustaceans, molluscs, Echinodermata and Annelida. Crustaceans constitute their preferential prey. The vacuity rate presents important monthly variations. It seems that a relationship between nutritive and reproductive cycles exists in both species of red mullet.

Description: Adults of D. labrax and D. punctatus feed on fish and Crustacea. Young D. labrax feed on small sized Crustacea. Differences may exist in the feeding of the Mediterranean and the Atlantic D. labrax populations.

Description: A study of growth of hake (Merluccius merluccius mediterraneus) in the Gulf of tunis region was made using both the direct method (determination of age from whole otoliths, or from cut sections of otoliths after polishing and burning), and the indirect system (determination of successive modal sizes from size distributions of hake caught by fishing boats). By these methods it was established that hake in this region grow rapidly at the beginning of life, and then the growth rate decreases with the increase in age. female also have a faster growth rate than male, the difference between the 2 rhythms is small at the start of life and increases with age.
