Description / Table of Contents:
The reaction of chlorinated aluminiumalkyls with μ-oxoalkoxides of Titanium yields ternary metal(oxide)chlorides, which are used in combination with triisobutylaluminium (TIBA) for the polymerisation of ethene and propene. The additionally introduced metals effect the polymerisation activity of the catalysts considerably, the highest value exceeding the lowest one by a factor of ca. 20. Characteristic differences in the activity vs. time curves are observed. Likewise, the molecular weights and tacticities of the polymers vary over a broad range. These results may be explained by assuming that active centers of different stability and chirality are generated by incorporation of the various modifying metals.
Notes:
