A chiral liquid chromatographic method was validated to analyze the D-and L-enantiomers of five amino acids contained in a commercial solution: aspartic acid, leucine, lysine, phenylalanine, and valine. These 10 compounds were separated on a chiral crown ether column with a mobile phase composed of water adjusted to pH 1.5 with perchloric acid, with ultraviolet detection at 220 nm. The method was applied to the commercial amino acid solution before and after sterilization by 5 kGy irradiation; no stereoconversion was observed following sterilization.
