    Description: We report the discovery of four Fast Radio Bursts (FRBs) in the ongoing SUrvey for Pulsars and Extragalactic Radio Bursts at the Parkes Radio Telescope: FRBs 150610, 151206, 151230 and 160102. Our real-time discoveries have enabled us to conduct extensive, rapid multimessenger follow-up at 12 major facilities sensitive to radio, optical, X-ray, gamma-ray photons and neutrinos on time-scales ranging from an hour to a few months post-burst. No counterparts to the FRBs were found and we provide upper limits on afterglow luminosities. None of the FRBs were seen to repeat. Formal fits to all FRBs show hints of scattering while their intrinsic widths are unresolved in time. FRB 151206 is at low Galactic latitude, FRB 151230 shows a sharp spectral cut-off, and FRB 160102 has the highest dispersion measure (DM = 2596.1 ± 0.3 pc cm −3 ) detected to date. Three of the FRBs have high dispersion measures (DM 〉 1500 pc cm −3 ), favouring a scenario where the DM is dominated by contributions from the intergalactic medium. The slope of the Parkes FRB source counts distribution with fluences 〉2 Jy ms is $\alpha =-2.2^{+0.6}_{-1.2}$ and still consistent with a Euclidean distribution (α = −3/2). We also find that the all-sky rate is $1.7^{+1.5}_{-0.9}\times 10^3$FRBs/(4π sr)/day above ${\sim }2{\rm \, }\rm {Jy}{\rm \, }\rm {ms}$ and there is currently no strong evidence for a latitude-dependent FRB sky rate.

    Description: : The Meguma Terrane of Nova Scotia and the Harlech Dome of North Wales preserve similar sedimentary successions of Cambrian age. Both successions comprise a thick succession of early Cambrian sandstone turbidites, overlain by early to middle Cambrian alternating mud-rich and sand-rich units in which manganese is concentrated in two stratigraphic intervals. Above these, both successions comprise anoxic, organic-rich turbidites, shallowing upward into paler, more bioturbated Tremadocian mudstone with Rhabdinopora . Within the limited constraints of the available biostratigraphic and geochronological data, major changes in environment occurred synchronously in the two successions. Both successions show much greater similarity to each other than to adjacent successions on ‘Avalonia'. A detrital zircon analysis from the Rhinog Formation, low in the Harlech Dome succession, reveals distinct clusters of ages around 537 Ma and 2.0–2.1 Ga. A close similarity to analyses from the Meguma Terrane suggests proximity between the two terranes on the margin of Gondwana during the Cambrian Period. We suggest the term Megumia for the palaeogeographical domain that included the two successions, which was dispersed during subsequent Appalachian and Caledonian movements. These observations suggest that Megumia may have separated terranes previously regarded as parts of Avalonia.     Description: The ability to stably deliver recombinant proteins to the systemic circulation would facilitate the treatment of a variety of acquired and inherited diseases. To explore the feasibility of the use of genetically engineered myoblasts as a recombinant protein delivery system, stable transfectants of the murine C2C12 myoblast cell line were produced that synthesize and secrete high levels of human growth hormone (hGH) in vitro. Mice injected with hGH-transfected myoblasts had significant levels of hGH in both muscle and serum that were stable for at least 3 weeks after injection. Histological examination of muscles injected with beta-galactosidase-expressing C2C12 myoblasts demonstrated that many of the injected cells had fused to form multinucleated myotubes.     Description: Vascular smooth muscle cell (SMC) proliferation in response to injury is an important etiologic factor in vascular proliferative disorders such as atherosclerosis and restenosis after balloon angioplasty. The retinoblastoma gene product (Rb) is present in the unphosphorylated and active form in quiescent primary arterial SMCs, but is rapidly inactivated by phosphorylation in response to growth factor stimulation in vitro. A replication-defective adenovirus encoding a nonphosphorylatable, constitutively active form of Rb was constructed. Infection of cultured primary rat aortic SMCs with this virus inhibited growth factor-stimulated cell proliferation in vitro. Localized arterial infection with the virus at the time of balloon angioplasty significantly reduced SMC proliferation and neointima formation in both the rat carotid and porcine femoral artery models of restenosis.     Description: In recent years, millisecond-duration radio signals originating in distant galaxies appear to have been discovered in the so-called fast radio bursts. These signals are dispersed according to a precise physical law and this dispersion is a key observable quantity, which, in tandem with a redshift measurement, can be used for fundamental physical investigations. Every fast radio burst has a dispersion measurement, but none before now have had a redshift measurement, because of the difficulty in pinpointing their celestial coordinates. Here we report the discovery of a fast radio burst and the identification of a fading radio transient lasting ~6 days after the event, which we use to identify the host galaxy; we measure the galaxy's redshift to be z = 0.492 +/- 0.008. The dispersion measure and redshift, in combination, provide a direct measurement of the cosmic density of ionized baryons in the intergalactic medium of OmegaIGM = 4.9 +/- 1.3 per cent, in agreement with the expectation from the Wilkinson Microwave Anisotropy Probe, and including all of the so-called 'missing baryons'. The ~6-day radio transient is largely consistent with the radio afterglow of a short gamma-ray burst, and its existence and timescale do not support progenitor models such as giant pulses from pulsars, and supernovae.     Description: This paper deals with the growth and mortality analysis of the burrito grunt Anisotremus interruptus on the coast of Colima, México. The estimated growth parameters are: L ¥ = 50.59 cm; W ¥ = 5,051.04 g; k = 0.147 years-1; to = -0.916 years; A0.95 = 19.46 years. Most of the growth occurred during the first year of life, when the grunt grows 12.52 cm, the second year it grows 4.95 cm and the third, 4.60 cm. The highest value of the condition index took place between February and September. The total mortality rate (Z) was calculated as 0.53 years-1. These values are basic for the plan of administration of the fishery of this species.
    Description: En el presente trabajo se realiza un análisis sobre el crecimiento y la mortalidad total y natural del bacoco Anisotremus interruptus en las costas de Colima, México. Los parámetros de crecimiento estimados son los siguientes: L ¥= 50.59 cm; W ¥= 5,051.04 g; k = 0.147 año- 1; to = -0.916 años; A0. 95 = 19.46 años. El periodo de mayor crecimiento lineal ocurre durante el primer año de vida, cuando el bacoco crece 12.52 cm, el segundo año crece 4.95 cm y el tercero, 4.60 cm. Los mayores valores del factor de condición se presentan durante febrero y septiembre. El coeficiente de mortalidad total (Z) es de 0.53 año- 1. Estos valores forman parte de la información necesaria para sentar las bases para la administración de la pesquería de esta especie.
