Notes: Abstract The isotope shift in the spark spectrum of dysprosium was studied by means of a photoelectric recording Fabry-Perot spectrometer with digital data output. For 29 lines the isotope shift of162Dy and164Dy was measured in order to check the mixing of the three configurations 4f 95d6s, 4f 95d 2, and 4f 106p calculated by Wyart. By means of the sharing rule the configuration mixing could be confirmed as a whole. In the ground state configuration the influence of relativistic effects was demonstrated and explained by theory. The order of magnitude of crossed-second-order effects contributing to the isotope shift of 4f 106s6 I and4 I could be estimated. In three lines the isotope shift of all stable Dy isotopes was measured. Mass shift and field shift were separated by comparison with results obtained in the arc spectrum.

Notes: Abstract The isotope shift in molybdenum has been studied in 16 lines of the arc and 6 lines of the spark spectrum for all stable isotopes by means of a photoelectric recording Fabry-Perot spectrometer with digital data processing. Mass shift and field shift were separated by two independent methods and were compared with the results of Hartree-Fock calculations. In the field shift large crossed-second-order effects ind 5 s 7 S and5 S were observed, which could be explained quantitatively by theory. The changes in mean square nuclear charge radii were evaluated from three 5s-5p transitions between different multiplets. The relativeδ〈r 2 〉 values are: [92, 94] 1; [94, 96] 0.854(3); [96, 98] 0.665(4); [98, 100] 1.003(5); [95, 97] 0.703(5);. [94, 95] 0.270(4); [96, 97] 0.119(5). The absolute values can be obtained withδ〈r 2 〉 92, 94=0.226(19)fm2.

Notes: Abstract The isotope shift in the arc spectrum of osmium was studied in 10 lines for the highly enriched isotopes188Os and192Os and in 2 lines for natural190Os by means of a photoelectric recording Fabry-Perot spectrometer with digital data processing. The observed shifts were analyzed by means of the parametric method. The field shift of 5d 76s 5 F is 53.4 (9.6) mK larger than that of3 F, thus showing the influence of crossed-second-order effects produced by the interaction of the electrostatic operator and the field shift operator. Spin dependent effects were also able to be evaluated. The corresponding parameterz s for the configuration 5d 76s was found to be 2.5 (2) mK. The experimental data are compared with results from non-relativistic Hartree-Fock calculations. Except for a scaling factorS *(Z)=1.489 the calculated electron densities describe the measured isotope shifts of this work and of other authors.

Notes: Abstract The high resolution laser-atomic-beam technique was used to investigate the hyperfine structure in Nd I 4f 46s 2 5 I,5 F,5 S and 4f 45d6s 7 L,7 K,7 I,7 H. The metastable states were populated by an arc discharge burning in the atomic beam. The measured hyperfine constantsA andB of the levels of 4f 46s 2 and 4f 45d6s allow a parametric analysis to be performed using the effective tensor operator formalism. The experimental radial integrals of the 4f and 5d electrons fit with those of the other lanthanides. The 4f radial integrals are in agreement with values of optimized Hartree-Fock-Slater calculations. The spectroscopic quadrupole moments of143Nd and145Nd are deduced from the 4f parameters:Q I =−0.610(21) b and −0.314(12) b, respectively. TheQ I resulting from the 5d parameter are in satisfactory agreement with these values. The hyperfine anomaly due to thes electron in 4f 45d 6s amounts to about 1%.

Notes: Abstract Using the non-relativistic Hartree-Fock computer code of Froese Fischer, calculations have been performed for all terms of the configuration 4f 7(8 S)6s7s of EuI. The results are compared with recent isotope shift and hyperfine structure measurements. The calculated electron charge densities reproduce, up to a scaling factor, the experimental field shifts.

Notes: Abstract The energies of all the levels of Nd I 4f 4 6s 2 5 F and of5 S 2 as well as of 4f 4 5d 6s 7 H 2 have been determined by means of laser-induced fluorescence in a hollow cathode. Their interpretation was carried out with the use of hyperfine structure data and a new parametric calculation of (4f 4 6s 2 + 4f 4 5d 6s). Furthermore, the energies andJ values of 5 new odd levels were found.

Notes: Abstract The isotope shift between all stable neodymium isotopes has been measured for 21 transitions in the Nd I spectrum by means of laser-atomic-beam absorption spectroscopy. A parametric analysis of the observed shifts in all the levels of the terms5 I,5 F, and5 S of the ground configuration 4f 46s 2 yields not only the magnetic parameterz 4f but, for the first time, also the effective electrostatic parametersa,b, andc. A more accurate value of the nuclear parameter λ148,150 (Nd)=0.369(20) fm2 is obtained from the investigation of a 4f 35d6s 2−4f 35d6s6p transition. The comparison of non-relativistic Hartree-Fock calculations with the experimental data yields a scaling factorS I * (Nd)=1.50(9) that agrees with the corresponding one from the hyperfine structure analysis.

Notes: Abstract The isotope shift in the arc spectrum of hafnium was studied in 10 lines for the isotopes176Hf,178Hf, and180Hf by means of a photoelectric recording Fabry-Perot spectrometer with digital data processing. The observed shifts together with results from an earlier study were analyzed by means of the parametric method. The field shift difference between the terms 5d 3(4 F) 6s 5 F and3 F resulted in 17(2) mK for the isotope pair178,180Hf. This reflects the influence of a second-order effect which is described by the parameterg 2=−4.4(6) mK. The parameterz 5d , displaying the magnitude of spin-dependent effects in the isotope shift of 5d 36s, was found to be 0.8(2) mK for the same isotope pair. The experimental data are compared with results obtained from the non-relativistic Hartree-Fock method. The calculated electron densities describe the experimental field shifts with good accuracy. Hartree-Fock screening ratios for various types of transitions were used to evaluate changes in mean-square nuclear charge radii. The mean value ofλ 178,180≈δ〈r 2〉178,180 equals 0.069(10) fm2.
