Description: The ascomycete Anixiopsis peruviana Cain is transferred to a new genus Xanthothecium v. Arx & Samson. The name Leucothecium emdenii v. Arx & Samson, gen. nov., spec. nov. is proposed for a soil-borne fungus with light coloured, smooth cleistothecia, catenulate asci, lenticular ascospores and an arthroconidial state. The relationships of both genera are discussed.

Description: In the course of a study of coprophilous fungi collected in the Zoological Garden in Delhi, an ascomycete belonging to the genus Achaetomium was isolated. It differs from previously described species by larger ascospores and almost colourless ascomata with a wide apical opening.

    Publication Date: 2015-04-20
Description: Fungal strains in the culture collection of the CBS under the generic names Arachniotus and Pseudoarachniotus were studied. The genera Arachniotus (including Pseudoarachniotus) with 6 species, Narasimhella with a single species, and Amauroascus with 7 species are accepted. For Arachniotus glomeratus, Arachniotus striatisporus and Arachniotus lectardii the new generic names Arachnotheca, Byssoascus, and Eleutherascus are proposed. A key is given for the genera of the Gymnoascaceae.

    Publication Date: 2015-04-20
Description: Based on type studies, the following genera are reclassified: Petalosporus, Disarticulatus, and Plunkettomyces as synonyms of Arachniotus; Gymnascella, Gymnoascoides, Macronodus, Tripedotrichum, and Uncinocarpus as synonyms of Gymnoascus, and Kuehniella as a synonym of Arachnotheca. The question of the type species of Arachniotus is discussed. Rollandina is considered to be a nomen confusum; sensu Apinis (1970) it belongs to Nannizzia. The accepted genera of the Gymnoascaceae are briefly reviewed.

Description: Relationship between Beauveria and some other genera is discussed. SEM-micrographs of the conidiophores of B. nivea are given. Synonymy of Tolypocladium with Beauveria is emphasized. The orthographic error B. arenarium (Petch) v. Arx (1986) is corrected and should be read B. aranearum.

Description: Similarities in structure, symmetry, and size of asci and ascospores indicate a phylogenetic relationship between the Endomycetales (Endomycetes, Hemiascomycetes) and the Eurotiales and Erysiphales of the Ascomycetes. Their anamorphs which form catenate conidia from meristematic zones and which are released by disjunctive structures, are also similar. The structures in the septa of hyphal Endomycetales termed micropores or plasmodesmata, are considered to be disjunctive pegs.

In:  Mededelingen van het Botanisch Museum en Herbarium van de Rijksuniversiteit te Utrecht (2352-5754) vol.217 (1965) nr.1 p.197

Description: Short descriptions and camera lucida drawings are given of cross-sections through the hymenophoral trama (lamellae or tubes) of 24 Basidiomycetes. These represent all the 16 Families of the Agaricales sensu Singer (1962). The typical members of the Agaricales in a limited definition have to be characterised by a more or less regular or bilateral trama with enlarged cells, or with swollen cellwalls in the Boletaceae, Strobilomycetaceae, Gomphidiaceae and Paxillaceae. In species of the genera Polyporus, Pleurotus (Polyporaceae), Lentinellus and Crepidotus such enlarged or swollen cells are lacking, the trama is irregular and is composed of a dense network of thickwalled hyphae. These genera and others like Schizophyllum better can be classified in the Aphyllophorales.
