    Description: This paper examines the major effects of climate charge on aquaculture, especially on the freshwater ecosytem. Aquaculture as established is not practiced evenly across the world. Therefore, the paper highlights the current aquaculture practices within the regions and across the different environments to ascertain the major effects of climate variations on the freshwater ecosystem and aquaculture practices in particular. The main elements of climate change that would impact on aquaculture produ ction, such as sea level and temperature rise, changes in monsoon patterns and extreme climatic events and water stress, among others were properly looked at and the reasons for their effects addressed. The different elements of climate change that are experienced in varying degrees can be either positive or negative or directly or indirectly, depending on the different culture systems that are practiced. It is in the process of our study that we brought out the complex attributes of climate change as it affects aquaculture productivity and the possible roles that the society can play to ameliorate the harsh effects of this ugly monstet; referred to as ”climate change and the consequent global warming trends.

    Description: An aspect of artisanal fisheries of Oramiri-Ukwa River was studied for 6 months from January to June 2008, to get the base-line information on the artisanal fisheries of Oramiri-Ukwa River and appraise the Ichthyo-fauna of the river and their monthly distribution. Data collected was subjected to Simpson’s index, Shannon-Weiner index and Marglefs’ index analysis. The Ichthyofauna community was composed of 30 species representing 16 families with Cichlidae having the highest number of species. Nineteen (19) species were present in both wet and dry season. Wet season recorded more species than Dry season with 52.1% and 47.9% respectively. General diversity value of 0.856 (dry) and 0.672 (wet) was observed.     Description: A study of the economics of fish farming in the Owerri Agricultural zone of Imo State was carried out. Simple random sampling technique was used in the selection of 30 fish farmers from the zone. Data were collected using structured questionnaire while descriptive statistics and multiple regression analysis were used for analysis. The study showed that majority of the farmers (51.20%) intensively managed their fish farms which were mostly homestead concrete ponds. The application of cost and return analysis showed that fish farmers in the zone made positive net gain from the two different pond types studied, with 4.22% in homestead pond and 49.13% in commercial concrete pond. The study recommended that investors and fish farmers should adopt intensive fish farming in commercial concrete ponds as it was found to be very profitable.

    Description: Artisanal fisheries resources and its exploitation trends in Cross River State were evaluated using questionnaire and participatory Rapid Appraisal (PRA) methods for a period of 5 years (1991-1995). They were open-access or unrestricted access fishing in Cross River State within the period under view. It was also discovered that, they were no proper records from the Department of fisheries. There was a decline in the relative abundance of the stock that constituted the important marine and freshwater fisheries in Cross River State Artisanal fisheries (small-scale fisheries) yielded 146,076 metric tons within the period. It was suggested therefore, that government should enforce the policies that restrict open-access in marine artisanal fisheries in Cross River State
