Description / Table of Contents:
Notes:
Abstract Cracks parallel to one family of fibers in orthogonally reinforced materials under plane stress or plane strain are considered. The body's shape and its boundary conditions are arbitrary, and the crack is traction free. Except in boundary layers, the fibers are assumed to be inextensible. A singular perturbation method shows how the two stress intensity factors corresponding to the opening mode and the sliding mode are expressed in terms of the tensile forces in the three singular fibers through the crack tip.
