Description: Representatives of three species of Bouillonia Petersen, 1990 are studied and described: syntype specimens of Bouillonia cornucopia Bonnevie (1898), from the Zoological Museum, University of Oslo; a putative new species from the Arctic (“Polarstern”, 1995); and Bouillonia denhartogi spec. nov. from the Antarctic: Weddell Sea (“Polarstern”, 2000, 2005), Antarctic Peninsula (“Lawrence M. Gould”, 2002, 2003), S. Sandwich Is. (“Nathaniel B. Palmer”, 2004), and the Ross Sea, (“Nathaniel B. Palmer”, 2005). Characters given by Petersen for the genus are discussed and a new, wider description of Bouillonia is proposed. Questions concerning the bipolar distribution of this genus are also discussed.

Description: Species of the thecate hydroid families Campanulinidae, Campanulariidae and Lafoeidae have been studied. The material studied originates from the Weddell Sea and was collected by several French and German Antarctic expeditions with R. V. Polarstern. Fourteen species were found, three belonging to Campanulinidae, four to Campanulariidae and seven to Lafoeidae, one of these new to science (Filellum magnificum sp. nov.). The coppinia of Lafoea gaussica Vanhoffen, 1910, is described for the first time as well as the gonothecae of Opercularella belgicae (Hartlaub, 1904). A neotype is indicated for Filellum antarcticum ( Hartlaub, 1904). Available data concerning autecology and geographical distribution for each species are given, as well as a description and figures when considered necessary.

Description: Five species of the genus Schizotricha Allman, 1883, one of which is new to science, have been studied.\nThe material originates from the Weddell Sea region and from off Elephant Island and it was collected during several antarctic expeditions with the R.V. Tolarstern\'. Each species is described and figured and its systematic position among allied species discussed. The type material of Schizotricha glacialis (Hickson & Gravely, 1907) and S. turqueti Billard, 1906 has been re-examined and is also described and figured.

Description: The eleven species of the hydroid genus Aglaophenia Lamouroux, 1812, recorded from European and Mediterranean waters are redescribed in detail and aspects of their biology discussed. A section on the identification of the European and Mediterranean species and a comprehensive glossary are included. Comments are given on type specimens, reproduction, ecology and distribution and, briefly, on other biological aspects. Certain of the species occur further north than previously realized. A. acacia Allman, 1883 and A. parvula Bale, 1882, are newly recorded from British waters, the latter being almost new to Europe. It differs only minutely from the widely-known A. pluma. A. kirchenpaueri (Heller, 1868) is added to the Irish faunal list, and has only recently been confirmed as present in British waters.\nRe-identifications are made of some specimens about 250 years old probably collected by John Ellis and forming part of the Linnean collection in London.\nType specimens are discussed, newly identified, or designated, as follows: Aglaophenia lophocarpa Allman, 1877 (lectotype, p. 22); A. parvula Bale, 1882 (lectotype, p. 25); A. pluma (Linnaeus, 1758, as Sertularia) (neotype, p. 30); A. tubulifera (Hincks, 1861, as Plumularia) (holotype identified, p. 36).

Description: Wimveria gen. nov. is established to accommodate Schizotricha divergens Naumov, 1960. Though this species should clearly be referred to the family Kirchenpaueriidae, no existing genus seems suitable.\nA redescription of the species and a diagnosis of Wimveria gen. nov. are given.

Description: Data are presented upon a small collection of eight species of pontoniine shrimp from Aqaba, Jordan, two of which, Periclimenes longicarpus and Hamodactylus aqabai are new species. Five of the six other species have not been previously recorded from the Red Sea. The pontoniine shrimp fauna of the Red Sea is discussed and keys for the identification of anemone and alcyonarian associated species of Periclimenes are provided.

Notes: [Auszug] We have investigated the regeneration of lysozyme-spheroplasts of Proteus vulgaris prepared according to Kohn's method4. The best results were obtained when the culture was frozen for 12 hr. We found that, 30 min. after thawing, more than 90 per cent of rods had been converted into spheres. This ...
