Summary In the present paper the phenomenon of the dynamics of adsoprtion-desorption, when a monocromatic gas hits a solid wall, has been taken into account. Starting from a model of the kinetic theory recently proposed, the trapping probability of the molecules of the incident beam on the surface itself has been determined. This probability is a function of the energy and of the angle of incidence, and depends also on some phenomenological parameters which take into account the physical-chemical conditions of the gas-surface pair. In this sense a qualitative analysis has been carried on, showing also that the phenomenological parameters can be related to mechanical quantities which can be directly measured. Finally the results of the proposed theory have been successfully compared with very accurate experimental results recently found.
