Summary An examination was made of the gastro-intestinal tracts of 27 ibex(Capra ibex) and 22 chamois(Rupicapra rupicapra) of different sex and age from the Hochlantsch area of Styria which were killed between 12. 9. 1978 and 31. 1. 1979. No animal was free from parasites. The average number of worms in a chamois was 1322, in an ibex 1813. The species of threadworm in the small intestine,Nematodis abnormalis, was found for only the second time in Austria and for the first time in the locality itself. A new nematodirus species was traced which is described in a separate article. Of the male ostertagia, the total length, the width in front of the bursa, the length of the osophagus and the length of the spicula and the length of the gubernakulum were measured. With the exception ofTeladorsagia pinnata, significant differences in size for all ostertagia species could be seen between ibex and chamois. Within one host species, the hosts were divided into groups according to sex, age and time of shooting and their parasites were compared. Significant differences could be shown between the host groups, especially clearly forTeladorsagia circumcincta; the worms of the female animals were of a bigger size than those of the males and the parasites in younger animals were bigger than those in older animals.
