Abstract Numerical methods, including finite element analysis, have previously been applied to model eddy current phenomena. The purpose of this paper is to present a finite element formulation of eddy currents for axisymmetric geometries that is developed without centroid approximations, and to describe the agreement between experimental and calculated results for a coil-in-air. The boundary conditions required for using the code are developed, and practical options for application of the conditions are investigated.
