Asymmetric Catalyses, 31. Enantioselective Catalytic Reduction of Dehydro Amino Acids with Formic AcidThe use of 80% aqueous formic acid for enantioselective transfer hydrogenation is described for the first time. (Z)-α-(Acetylamino)cinnamic acid (1) gives N-acetylphenylalanine, whereas methyl (Z)-α- and (E)-α-(benzoylamino)-2-butenoate (2, 3) with concomitant hydrolysis of the ester group are transfered to 2-(benzoylamino)butanoic acid. As catalysts were used the Rh complexes of the ligands (+)- and (-)-Norphos (4), (+)- and (-)-BPPFA (6), (+)-Prophos (5), and (-)-Diop (7). Addition of sodium formate increases the optical inductions which in some cases exceed the ee-values obtainable in the hydrogenation with gaseous hydrogen.
Notes:
