Notes:
Abstract The local heat flux at the inner surface of horizontal tubes in case of flow boiling may not be uniform at all, though the outer surface is heated with a uniform heat flux. This non-uniformity is due to the separation of the vapor and the liquid phase in the tube. Evaluation of measured wall temperature along the circumference of a tube, local heat transfer coefficients can be calculated if tangential heat conduction in the tube wall is taken into account. This calculation predicts an increase of the perimeter averaged heat transfer coefficient as well as of the critical heat flux with increasing heat conductivity and thickness of the tube wall. Comparing experimental data obtained with test sections of different materials, different wall thickness and different kinds of heat supply attention must be paid to the influence of tangential heat conduction.
