Notes: Summary A solution method is developed for a laminated spherical shell, subject to uniform normal tractions or constant radial displacements on the boundary. Displacements and stresses in the shell can be obtained from the solution formulas, which are as simple as those for homogeneous spherical shells. These formulas are accurate when the thicknesses of the constituent spherical layers are small in comparison with the radii of the shell, and become exact in case these thicknesses tend to zero under a fixed overall shell thickness. The solution is obtained mainly by exactly treating the product of an infinitely large number of matrices which link the displacements and stresses in different constituent spherical layers. A continuous analysis and a number of numerical results are provided to validate this development.

Notes: Summary A solution to the thin plate bending problem of partially bonded dissimilar strips with two bond lines is presented. The two strips are symmetrically bonded with respect to the interface which is on theX-axis. The complex stress functions approach together with the rational mapping function technique are used in the analysis. A concentrated bending moment applied at each strip is considered. Distributions of bending and torsional moments, as well as the stress intensity of debonding (SID) at the debonding tips are obtained, and the debonding extension is investigated.

Notes: Summary  A solution is derived from equations of equilibrium in an infinite isotropic elastic solid containing a penny-shaped crack where displacements are given. Abel transforms of the second kind stress and displacement components at an arbitrary point of the solid are known in the literature in terms of jumps of stress and displacement components at a crack plane. Limiting values of these expressions at the crack plane together with the boundary conditions lead to Abel-type integral equations, which admit a closed form solution. Explicit expressions for stress and displacement components on the crack plane are obtained in terms of prescribed face displacements of crack surfaces. Some special cases of the crack surface shape functions have been given in the paper.

Notes: Summary A solution is obtained for the second mixed boundary value problem with two boundaries loaded with external forces, and the other two boundaries simply supported. A rational mapping function formed as a sum of fractional expressions and complex stress functions is used for the analysis. A closed form solution can be obtained under uniform tensile and shearing loadings. These solutions are applicable to crack problems in linear elastic fracture mechanics. In order to illustrate the general solution, a double connected region is considered, in which interaction between a square hole with a crack extension and another crack is investigated. Stress distributions and stress intensity factors are obtained.

Description / Table of Contents: Übersicht Eine axialsymmetrische Spannungsverteilung in der Umgebung eines münzförmigen Risses im unbegrenzten isotropen elastischen Raum wird für allgemeine Randbedingungen bezüglich der Last- und Temperaturverteilung untersucht.
Notes: Summary Axially symmetric stress distribution in the neighbourhood of a penny-shaped crack stituated in an infinite isotropic elastic solid under general surface loadings and general surface temperature is considered. Surface loadings and surface temperature applied on the crack surfaces are axisymmetric but they are unsymmetrical about the crack planez=0. The equations of equilibrium of an elastic solid conducting heat have been solved using Hankel transforms and Abel integral operator of the second kind. The stresses, displacements, temperature and flux functions at a general point in the solid are derived in terms of stress, displacement, temperature and heat flux discontinuities at the plane of the crack. Using the boundary conditions and the continuity conditions problem is reduced to that of solving Abel integral equations of the first and the second kind. Explicit expressions are obtained for stress components, crack opening displacement and stress intensity factors in terms of the prescribed surface temperature functions. For some special cases of thermal loading these quantities are compared with those available in the literature. Stress at a general point of the medium is obtained in the special case, when the one face of the crack is subjected to constant temperature while the other face is kept at the reference temperature.
