Notes: Synopsis The aminolysis-hydrolysis of the nitrile groups of PAN with asymmetrical diamines as H2N-(CH2)m-NR2 was investigatied by IR spectroscopy (qualitative and quantitative) and elemental analyses. IR quantitative spectroscopy is an adequately proved method for investigation of the extent of transformation. The amine reactivity depends on the distance between the two amine groups and the size of the alkyl substituents on the tertiary amine. The data support the reaction mechanism by the nucleophilic attack of the primary amine on the two neighbouring nitrile groups.

Notes: Abstract The compatibility of binary polymer mixtures of poly(vinyl acetate) and poly(vinyl chloride) or poly(methyl methacrylate) was studied by thermogravimetry, infrared spectroscopy and phase contrast microscopy. The poly(vinyl chloride)/(poly(methyl methacrylate) system is characterized by pseudocompatibility, due to the interaction of functional groups, with two maximum compatibility ratios, at 10 PVC/90 PMMA and 80 PVC/20 PMMA. For the poly(vinyl acetate)/(poly(methyl methacrylate) system evidence was found of ”chain” pseudocompatibility for the composition range 40–90 wt% PVAc, with a maximum degree of compatibility at 80 PVAc/20 PMMA.

Notes: Macroporous copolymers of poly(acrylonitrile-co-divinylbenzene) were synthesized in the presence of 2-ethyl-1-hexanol (2EH) and toluene as diluents. The copolymers were characterized by acrylonitrile content and from morphological point of view. Samples with a minimum content of homopolymer were transformed into weak base anion exchangers by the aminolysis-hydrolysis reaction of the nitrile groups with N,N-dialkylaminoalkylamines. The reactions were investigated by the exchange capacity variation and IR-spectral analysis. It was emphasized that the reactivity of asymmetrical diamines depends on the nucleophilicity of the primary amine group.

Description: Leukocytes from severely bled rabbits were sedimented and introduced in diffusion chambers that were implanted intraperitoneally into donor animals during the same day. Erythroblasts were found in the Millipore chambers on the fourth day culture. They were present in large numbers from the seventh to eighth day when they comprised 47.5 per cent of the nucleated cells present. Concomitantly, the young classes of reticulocytes, never found in controls, were detected in the diffusion chambers of bled animals, after more than 4 days of culture. It was assumed that: (1) Some circulating leukocytes may develop into erythroblasts under the influence of endogenous erythropoietin. (2) Under the experimental conditions employed, bleeding promoted only erythropoiesis within the implanted diffusion chambers containing leukocytes. There was no evidence of granulopoiesis and thrombopoiesis.
