Abstract: The new, fully updated edition of this successful book, brings together the combined experience of a leading dedicated unit over 25 years in delivering expert medical and surgical care to children with DSD (Disorders/Differences of Sex Development) in a holistic environment. It documents the most recent advances in the molecular biology and embryology of sex development, and describes each variation in detail. The main focus of the book is on patients with variations with their anatomy and hormone function. New chapters describe the developments in the field in terms of definitions and incidence, the mental health of DSD patients and discuss the perspectives of patients families and support groups. The clinical presentation and approach to diagnosis are described both for babies and for children presenting later in childhood or at adolescence. The chapters on management highlight all the latest knowledge and include the shared wisdom of the authors on current controversies, such as the timing of surgical treatment. Finally, the authors describe their short-, medium-, and long-term outcomes, which demonstrate the strengths of holistic team management.

Abstract: This book discusses the efficacy of various naturally occurring chemopreventive agents in preventing or delaying cancer. It focuses on the holistic chemopreventive concept, demonstrating the relevant response is the combined effect of a series of compounds that alone have been shown to have some effect in different experimental models. Written by leading experts in the field, the contributions provide details of research on various chemopreventive agents. Offering insights into the unique molecular targets and mechanisms, safety issues, molecular efficacy, and occurrence in nature of these compounds, the book is a valuable resource for all scientists working in biomedicine, and specifically in cancer research. .

Description / Table of Contents: A guide to the Decapoda of the Southern Ocean is presented, with emphasis on those species which have been recorded south of the Antarctic Convergence. Despite being well represented in all other oceans the decapod fauna of Antarctic waters is depauperate, with only eleven species having been reported from south of the Antarctic Convervence (Petalidium foliaceum, Notocrangon antacticus, Pasiphaea longispina, Pasiphaea scotiae, Nematocarcinus longirostris, Nematocarcinus lanceopes, Hymenodora gracilis, Chorismus antarcticus, Lebbeus antarcticus, Acanthephyra pelagica and Paralomis spectabilis). Species found in the subarctic waters north of the Convergence are also included in the key as their ranges may overlap with those of the Antarctic species. A key is also provided to the larvae of decapod families which are known to have Antarctic representatives. Short descriptions, with figures and records of occurence, are presented for each of the eleven Antarctic species to enable the reader to confirm identifications from the keys. A glossary of technical terms has also been compiled.
