Description / Table of Contents:
Notes:
Poly(vinyl chloride) blends with vinyl chloride-vinyl acetate and vinyl chloride-propylene copolymers were found to have better processing properties than PVC homopolymers. The functional properties of these blends were determined from physico-chemical, mechanical, and thermal investigations. Swelling in benzene and deformation under compression was found to increase with the copolymer content in the blends, but their softening point decreased at the same time. These changes were especially pronounced for lower-molecular weight copolymers which indicates loosening of the blend structure. The mechanical properties of the blends, except for some decrease in the impact strength for the compositions containing lower molecular weight copolymers, were found to be near those for unmodified PVC.
