Description: In view of the unbalanced energy consumption of traditional cluster-based sensor networks, this paper proposes a type of uneven clustering protocol in data collection. The network is divided into inner and outer regions according to the distance between nodes and the base station. The inner region is consisted of several layers and nodes in outer region are deployed in grids of different sizes. Sensor data is collected by nodes in outer region and then is be transmitted to the inner region. Nodes in the inner region do data fusion and forward data from the lower layer to the higher one. Simulation results show that, compared with MTP and CDFUD, the proposed algorithm performs well in balance of energy consumption and could effectively prolong the network lifetime.

Description: As a novel recurrent neural network (RNN), an echo state network (ESN) that utilizes a reservoir with many randomly connected internal units and only trains the readout, avoids increased complexity of training procedures faced by traditional RNN. The ESN can cope with complex nonlinear systems because of its dynamical properties and has been applied in hydrological forecasting and load forecasting. Due to the linear regression algorithm usually adopted by generic ESN to train the output weights, an ill-conditioned solution might occur, degrading the generalization ability of the ESN. In this study, the ESN with Bayesian regularization (BESN) is proposed for short-term power production forecasting of small hydropower (SHP) plants. According to the Bayesian theory, the weights distribution in space is considered and the optimal output weights are obtained by maximizing the posterior probabilistic distribution. The evidence procedure is employed to gain optimal hyperparameters for the BESN model. The recorded data obtained from the SHP plants in two different counties, located in Yunnan Province, China, are utilized to validate the proposed model. For comparison, the feed-forward neural networks with Levenberg-Marquardt algorithm (LM-FNN) and the generic ESN are also employed. The results indicate that BESN outperforms both LM-FNN and ESN.

Description: The characteristics of the intergenic spacer rDNAs (IGS rDNAs) of Oesophagostomum dentatum and O. quadrispinulatum isolated from pigs in different geographical locations in Mainland China were determined, and the phylogenetic relationships of the two species were reconstructed using the IGS rDNA sequences. The organization of the IGS rDNA sequences was similar to their organization in other eukaryotes. The 28S-18S IGS rDNA sequences of both O. dentatum and O. quadrispinulatum were found to have variable lengths, that is, 759–762 bp and 937–1128 bp, respectively. All of the sequences contained direct repeats and inverted repeats. The length polymorphisms were related to the different numbers and organization of repetitive elements. Different types and numbers of repeats were found between the two pig nodule species, and two IGS structures were found within O. quadrispinulatum. Phylogenetic analysis showed that all O. dentatum isolates were clustered into one clade, but O. quadrispinulatum isolates from different origins were grouped into two distinct clusters. These results suggested independent species and the existence of genotypes or subspecies within pig nodule worms. Different types and numbers of repeats and IGS rDNA structures could serve as potential markers for differentiating these two species of pig nodule worms.

Description: Sensors, Vol. 18, Pages 3069: Intelligent Ball Bearing Fault Diagnosis Using Fractional Lorenz Chaos Extension Detection Sensors doi: 10.3390/s18093069 Authors: An-Hong Tian Cheng-Biao Fu Yu-Chung Li Her-Terng Yau In this study we used a non-autonomous Chua’s circuit, and the fractional Lorenz chaos system. This was combined with the Extension theory detection method to analyze the voltage signals. The bearing vibration signals, measured using an acceleration sensor, were introduced into the master and slave systems through a Chua’s circuit. In a chaotic system, minor differences can cause significant changes that generate dynamic errors. The matter-element model extension can be used to determine the bearing condition. Extension theory can be used to establish classical and sectional domains using the dynamic errors of the fault conditions. The results obtained were compared with those from discrete Fourier transform analysis, wavelet analysis and an integer order chaos system. The diagnostic rate of the fractional-order master and slave chaotic system could reach 100% if the fractional-order parameter adjustment was used. This study presents a very efficient and inexpensive method for monitoring the state of ball bearings.

Description: One novel xanthone, oliganthone A ( 1 ), was isolated from the stems of the plant Garcinia oligantha. It features the O-bearing C(3)-atom and absence of C(4) compared with the structures of related known xanthones, which have never been reported before. The structure of this compound was elucidated by spectroscopic analysis. Compound 1 showed strong HeLa cell growth-inhibiting effects with IC 50 values below 10 μ M .

Description: DNA hypermethylation and the silencing of tumor suppressor genes caused by DNA hypermethylation is considered as a molecular hallmark of many kinds of cancers. Procaine, a local anesthetic, has been shown as a potential DNA methylation inhibitor in some types of cancers. However, the influence of procaine on DNA methylation regulation as well as the biological function in gastric cancer is still unknown. We report here that procaine represses the DNA-methylation level and promotes the proliferation arrest and apoptosis of gastric cancer cells. Global DNA methylation measurement demonstrates that procaine significantly reduces the global DNA methylation level. Analyses of the DNMTs expression and activity show procaine represses the activity, but not the expression, of DNMT1/DNMT3A. Further evidence on specific genes shows that procaine reduces the DNA methylation level in the promoter regions of CDKN2A and RARβ genes through abrogating the binding of DNMT1/DNMT3A towards these regions. This repression would not be reversed by the overexpression of DNMT1/DNMT3A. Moreover, RT-qPCR and luciferase report assays demonstrate that procaine leads to the upregulation of CDKN2A and RARβ due to the activation of the promoter of these genes. In the end, we test the function of procaine towards gastric cancer cells and find that procaine has the growth inhibitory and apoptosis inducement effect towards gastric cancer cells. Collectively, our data not only uncovers the regulation mechanisms of procaine to DNA methylation but also suggests an anti-tumor potential of procaine specific to the gastric carcinoma and provides a new therapeutic strategy for gastric carcinoma. Description: IJERPH, Vol. 15, Pages 900: Will Happiness Improve the Psychological Integration of Migrant Workers? International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health doi: 10.3390/ijerph15050900 Authors: Tian-Cheng Li Chien-Chi Chu Fan-Cun Meng Qin Li Di Mo Bin Li Sang-Bing Tsai Happiness is a major factor that influences people’s perceptions and behavior. Two-stage least squares regression was applied to investigate the effect of happiness on the psychological integration of migrant workers in China. The data for a total of 1625 individuals were obtained from the 2014 China Labor-force Dynamics Survey (CLDS). This study describes happiness from three main aspects: happiness, life satisfaction, and economic satisfaction. The psychological integration includes two dimensions of settlementwillingness, and trust level; these have gone through dimension-reduced processing by using the weighted average method. The empirical evidence shows, first, that happiness has a significantly positive effect on the psychological integration of migrant workers and second, that the sense of life satisfaction in particular plays a more significant role. The acceleration of the social and political integration in migrant workers will enhance their psychological integration. Additionally, social, cultural and economic integration is found to influence migrant workers’ psychological integration by promoting happiness. Happiness between different generations of migrant workers was found to have a noticeably positive impact on their psychological integration; however, the happiness of the younger migrant workers was more perceivable than that of the other generations. Preferential policies should therefore be provided to improve the happiness of migrant workers.
