Notes: In this paper, the fundamental attributes, phase composition of three pre-alloyed powdersfor diamond tools by water atomization were investigated. The density, hardness, bend strength andbending modulus of their sintered samples by hot pressing were examined under varioustemperatures. The results showed that the three pre-alloyed powders have excellent low temperaturesintering characteristics. The physical and mechanical properties of the samples were found to benearly the same as those of ultra-fine cobalt powders

Notes: The slag-alkali is used to activate the activity of higher calsium fly ash. By the designs of the mixture ratio and the quadratic regression orthogonal design, the best combination is sought out. Several mixture factors which affect the rule of the concrete material properties and long term performance are researched. The mathematic models which are set up by the mixture ratio design with the quadralic regression orthogonal design can be effective. The precision is high. The strengthof the concrete of slag-alkali fly ash was still increasing after 8 year. The dispersion degree of those specimens is small. The SEM photo of cracked specimen and early concrete specimen shows the surface of fly ash in 7 days concrete is slick and that in 8 years old specimen has been enwrapped tightly by much hydrate plant

Notes: This paper discusses the sulfate resistance and frost of mass hydraulic concrete which containing fly ash, superplasticizer and a novel MgO-bearing expansive agent (HNM), at same time, the mechanisms and processes of sulfate attack on it have been proposed. Results showed that using a water/binder ratio of 0.48 in RCC containing 50 % fly ash and 8 % HNM a durability factor of over D300 can be achieved and sulfate resistance may be improved slightly

Notes: Ultrafine slag, which is ground with the process of vertical mill, is tested with the laser granulometric distribution apparatus quickly. The characteristics of granulometric distribution of ultrafine slag are analyzed using fractal theory. The fractal dimension of different fineness powders is tested and counted. The result shows that ultrafine slag powders have self-similar characteristics. With the laser granulometric distribution apparatus, the fractal dimension of its powders might betested and counted with the fractal theory and its characteristics might be fast evaluated. The inherent law between powders fineness and activity is studied, and the mathematical model is built with the results. The fractal characteristics of powders might be used to meticulously evaluate fineness of ultrafine powders and be used to describe complexity of powders. The test of activation indicates that the slag fineness appraised by fractal dimension has fine linear relevant characteristicwith its 7 d, 28 d activity

Notes: According to abalone’s growth characteristics, artificial abalone reefs are invented in this paper. The trace elements are added in concrete. The proportion is fixed by test. Ocean alga adheres to reefs with them very well. The craft, matching optimization, curing terms in the island environment and concrete long-term stability in the ocean current are studied to solve the durability of reefs in the marine environment. It shows the durability of fishing reef by high performance, high function, and ecological concrete technology is reliable. Its strength is still increasing for one year and no damage has been found. It is feasible to use the complex admixture, high-quality fly ash, ultrafine silicon powder, surface-soaking-into water-hating material made by our own, adhering-shaking-compact molding equipment made by ourselves and solar-energy-curing technology. Ten thousands of large-scale artificial abalone reefs have been done. A large amount of marine organisms covered the reefs only after 40 days using

Notes: Abstract Apolipoprotein-J/clusterin (APOJ/CLI) shares many biological properties with apolipoprotein-Ε (APOE) including, but not limited to, avid binding with β-amyloid peptide. Thus, APOJ/CLI warrants scrutiny as a candidate Alzheimer’s disease (AD) susceptibility gene. We identified seven nucleotide sequence polymorphisms in APOJ/ CLI, two of which, in exon 7, alter the predicted amino acid sequence. The JVIIB variant is an asparagine-to-histidine substitution, which deletes a glycosylation signal at amino acid 317; the JVIIC variant is an aspartate-to-asparagine substitution, which forms a new glycosylation signal at position 328. Both of these coding variants, as well as two neutral polymorphisms in exon 2, were more frequent in African-Americans than Hispanics and were rare in Caucasians. However, no individual coding or noncoding variant was consistently associated with AD. At the population level, APOJ/CLI polymorphisms are frequent among persons of African descent, but probably do not alter susceptibility to AD.

Notes: A radical aromatic substitution resulting in biphenylcarboxylic acid is inferred for the decomposition of benzoyl peroxide from the chemical ionization and collision-induced dissociation mass spectra. The thermolysis of benzoyl peroxide gives rise to a benzoyloxy radical, which undergoes rapid decarboxylation and hydrogen abstraction leading to phenyl radical and benzoic acid, respectively. Attack of the resulting phenyl radical on the benzoic acid results in biphenylcarboxylic acid. On the other hand, the phenyl radical abstracts a hydrogen atom to yield benzene, which is then subjected to the attack of a benzoyloxy radical, affording phenyl benzoate. This substitution reaction rather than the recombination of benzoyloxy and phenyl radicals is found to be responsible for the formation of phenyl benzoate under the present conditions.

Notes: The interactions between poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET) and six high temperature solvents are discussed in terms of gelation and melting temperature depression. The six solvents are 1′-acetonaphthone (AN), phenyl ether (PE), biphenyl (BP), 1-methyl naphthalene (MN), nitrobenzene (NB), and a eutectic mixture of phenyl ether and biphenyl (EU). Although the six solvents have very similar solubility parameter values, the dissolution, gelation, and gel melting temperatures of the PET-solvent systems are vastly different. The characteristic transition temperatures (dissolution, gelation, and gel melting temperatures) of the six solvents decrease in the following order: PE 〉 EU 〉 BP 〉 MN 〉 AN 〉 NB, which is the reverse order of the solvent power. While the transition temperatures of the gel vary with the solvent system, the melting temperature of the dry gel formed from quiescent solution is independent of solvent system. That is, PET-solvent interactions are only discernible in solvated state (wet gel). All the experimental results suggest crystallization is the primary cause of gelation of high temperature PET solutions, with crystals acting as junction points in the network. Based on the dissolution and gel melting temperatures, interaction parameters for the six PET-solvent systems have been calculated.

Notes: This paper introduces a new method (now commonly referred to as the Baker-Strehlow Method) for estimating pressure and impulse generated by vapor cloud explosions. Strehlow's blast curves and concepts from the Multi-Energy method for determination of explosion energy are applied in this technique. New correlations for maximum flame speed based on obstacle density, fuel reactivity, and cloud confinement allow selection of the appropriate blast curve. Application of these correlations removes much of the subjectivity present in existing explosion estimates.

Notes: The Baker-Strehlow methodology was developed to provide an objective approach to prediction of blast pressures from vapor cloud explosions. The complete methodology was first published in 1994 [1]. Since then, it has evolved through ongoing research and use in VCE hazard analyses, facility siting studies and accident investigations. This article gives a brief overview of a paper on recent developments in the Baker-Strehlow methodology presented at the 31st Loss Prevention Symposium in Houston on March 9-13, 1997. Because the entire paper is too lengthy to be presented here, the following discussions may be lacking in some details. A copy of the complete paper can be obtained from the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE).Since the Baker-Strehlow method was first published, it has been used extensively in VCE hazard assessments in refineries and chemical plants. As expected, many practical lessons have been learned during the course of the hazard assessments, and the Baker-Strehlow method has evolved as a result. The changes have been evolutionary, not revolutionary. In keeping with the goals of the original study in which the methodology was developed, all changes have been incorporated with the intent of achieving an objective methodology to provide consistent prediction of VCE blast effects. The revisions to the Baker-Strehlow method resulting from experience gained during plant walk-downs and hazard assessments include: Systematic identification of “potential explosion sites” or “PESs,”Selection of the level of confinement for mixed zones of 2D and 3D confinement,Deciding on flame expansion when confinement is elevated above the vapor cloud,Selecting the reactivity for a fuel that is a mixture of fuels with differing reactivities,Predicting blast loads when there are multiple PES's within a vapor cloud considering different ignition source locations.
