Notes: A new method of etching micro-grating structures (MGSs) on the surface of glazedstainless-steel directly is reported, which makes good use of the interference of nanosecond laserpulses. Through changing the experimental parameters such as working current of the laser andsource beam diameter, the influences of these parameters on the depth of grooves and duty cycle ofMGSs are analyzed. The results measured with conventional optical microscopy and atomic forcemicroscopy (AFM) show that the depth of grooves of MGSs varies from 0 nm to 350 nm, the dutycycle of MGSs changes between 0.4 and 0.9, This method can be used to make a stencil-plate fornano-imprinting. It extends the application of nanosecond laser in laser-induced microstructures, and provides a new method for micromachining micro-optical component

Notes: SrFe0.6Cu0.3Ti0.1O3-δ (SFCTO) composite-oxide powder was synthesized by citric acid complexmethod and studied as mixed oxygen-ionic and electronic conducting membrane material. The formationprocess of the perovskite-type compound was detected by XRD, infra-red spectrum and thermo gravimetricanalysis; the effects of ethylene glycol added in the sol formation process on the size distribution ofthe powder and the oxygen permeation flux of the membrane were examined. A stable sol was formedwhen the molar ratio of total metal ions to citric acid and ethylene glycol was 1:2:3 and the pH value was5.5; the characteristic absorption peaks of citric acid in the dried gel, O-H and -COO-, moved toward lowfrequency direction for 200 cm-1 and 135 cm-1 respectively due to the complexing action of the metal ionsand citric acid. As the dried gel was heated in air up to 400°C, SrCO3 phase appeared by the combustionof citric acid and ethylene glycol. The perovskite phase started to form at 700 °C, SrCO3 phase reducedgradually and the single phase of SFCTO was obtained at 900 °C. The SFCTO dense membrane preparedunder the optimum conditions exhibited an oxygen permeation flux of 0.7 ml·min-1·cm-2 at 900°C

Notes: In the paper, genetic algorithm is introduced in the study of network authority values of BPneural network, and a GA-NN algorithm is established. Based on this genetic algorithm-neuralnetwork method, a predictive model for fatigue performances of the pre-corroded aluminum alloysunder a varied corrosion environmental spectrum was developed by means of training from the testingdada, and the fatigue performances of pre-corroded aluminum alloys can be predicted. The resultsindicate that genetic algorithm-neural network algorithm can be employed to predict the underlyingfatigue performances of the pre-corroded aluminum alloy precisely, compared with traditional neuralnetwork

Notes: The mostly working time of airborne electronic equipment is under preliminary depletionfailure phase, and inspection & maintenance at intervals can’t lower the failure probability. In thispaper, the law of airborne electronic equipment failure is introduced firstly. Then, methods for failureprediction are summarized and analyzed. Finally, an example for predicting the airborne radar failureusing the Auto-Regressive (AR) and Support Vector Regression (SVR) model is presented. On thisbasis, it is possible to achieve the goal that increases the reliability in working phase and establish amore scientific maintenance system and to assure the safety of airborne electronic equipment

Notes: Passivation cracking is one of the main failures of Integrated circuits (ICs). A major causefor these failures is due to the mismatch of Coefficients of Thermal Expansion (CTE), Young’smodulus, Poisson’s ratios of package materials. In this paper, in order to analysis the stressdistribution around the passivation layer corner, the finite element simulations and simplifiedanalytical solutions are both applied. Then the comparison of stress values is made between the FEMresult and simplified analytical solution, which shows that there is a good agreement. Based on theseanalyses, a conclusion can be drawn out that the simplified analytical model can be used to analyze themaximum stress around the passivation layer corner fast when design a chip preliminarily

Notes: This paper presents our effort to reduce thermo-mechanical failures related IC packagingreliability problems. These reliability problems are driven by the mismatch between the differentmaterial properties. First of all, finite element analysis are adopted to investigate the influence ofencapsulation structures and material properties on the stress distribution in dielectric layers andplastic strain distribution in die for a typical stacked package of IC microstructures. Results showthat thinner package body, lower thermal stress and smaller plastic strain can be realized in thismicro-structure with the different design geometry parameters and materials properties. Secondly, itwas also found that the transition layer of TiN between the die and dielectric layer has a pronouncedinfluence on decreasing the local stress in the passivation layer by comparison analysis. Thesestudies would be beneficial to improve the reliability of stacked IC micro-structure packages

Notes: To consider the corrosive effects on aircraft structural life under natural environments, wehave the calendric life to represent its impact. A new concept of Aircraft Structural Life Envelope(ASLE) to consider the combined effects of fatigue loads and corrosive conditions is developed andthe sketch of ASLE is presented, then the basic determining methods of ASLE under differentcorrosive conditions are obtained too. Finally the linear damage cumulative rules are employed toanalyze the usage of aircraft in different corrosive conditions, and the residual fatigue life andcalendric life of aircraft structures can be predicted and supervised

Description: The Coupled Ocean‐Atmosphere‐Wave‐Sediment Transport (COAWST) modeling system was used to examine axial wind effects on vertical stratification and sediment transport in a convergent estuary. The model demonstrated that stratification dynamics in the upper estuary (Kelvin number 〈1; Ke= fB/√ g'hs) are dominated by longitudinal wind straining, whereas the dominant mechanism governing estuarine stratification in the lower estuary (Kelvin number ~1) is lateral wind straining. Barotropic advection contributes to seaward sediment transport and peaks during spring tides, whereas estuarine circulation causes landward sediment transport with a maximum during neap tides. Down‐estuary winds impose no obvious effects on longitudinal sediment flux, whereas up‐estuary winds contribute to enhanced seaward sediment flux by increasing the tidal oscillatory flux. The model also demonstrates that bottom friction is significantly influenced by vertical stratification over channel regions, which is indirectly affected by axial winds.

Description: In several eukaryotic organisms, heterochromatin (HC) in the introns of genes can regulate RNA processing, including polyadenylation, but the mechanism underlying this regulation is poorly understood. By promoting distal polyadenylation, the bromo-adjacent homology (BAH) domain-containing and RNA recognition motif-containing protein ASI1 and the H3K9me2-binding protein EDM2 are required for the expression of functional full-length transcripts of intronic HC-containing genes in Arabidopsis. Here we report that ASI1 and EDM2 form a protein complex in vivo via a bridge protein, ASI1-Immunoprecipitated Protein 1 (AIPP1), which is another RNA recognition motif-containing protein. The complex also may contain the Pol II CTD phosphatase CPL2, the plant homeodomain-containing protein AIPP2, and another BAH domain protein, AIPP3. As is the case with dysfunction of ASI1 and EDM2, dysfunction of AIPP1 impedes the use of distal polyadenylation sites at tested intronic HC-containing genes, such as the histone demethylase gene IBM1, resulting in a lack of functional full-length transcripts. A mutation in AIPP1 causes silencing of the 35S-SUC2 transgene and genome-wide CHG hypermethylation at gene body regions, consistent with the lack of full-length functional IBM1 transcripts in the mutant. Interestingly, compared with asi1, edm2, and aipp1 mutations, mutations in CPL2, AIPP2, and AIPP3 cause the opposite effects on the expression of intronic HC-containing genes and other genes, suggesting that CPL2, AIPP2, and AIPP3 may form a distinct subcomplex. These results advance our understanding of the interplay between heterochromatic epigenetic modifications and RNA processing in higher eukaryotes.

Description: The P-element–induced wimpy testis (PIWI)-interacting RNA (piRNA) pathway plays a central role in transposon silencing and genome protection in the animal germline. A family of Tudor domain proteins regulates the piRNA pathway through direct Tudor domain–PIWI interactions. Tudor domains are known to fulfill this function by binding to methylated PIWI proteins in an arginine methylation-dependent manner. Here, we report a mechanism of methylation-independent Tudor domain–PIWI interaction. Unlike most other Tudor domains, the extended Tudor domain of mammalian Tudor domain-containing protein 2 (TDRD2) preferentially recognizes an unmethylated arginine-rich sequence from PIWI-like protein 1 (PIWIL1). Structural studies reveal an unexpected Tudor domain-binding mode for the PIWIL1 sequence in which the interface of Tudor and staphylococcal nuclease domains is primarily responsible for PIWIL1 peptide recognition. Mutations disrupting the TDRD2–PIWIL1 interaction compromise piRNA maturation via 3′-end trimming in vitro. Our work presented here reveals the molecular divergence of the interactions between different Tudor domain proteins and PIWI proteins.
