    Description: Some of the various strategies adopted by living organisms for survival at low temperatures are discussed from the molecular and membrane points of view. Two examples of connections between biological cold adaptation and the molecular level are considered: (1) antifreeze proteins in fish from cold sea water and (2) the fluidity characteristics of cell membranes in a wide variety of organisms. Emphasis is placed on the occurrence of s-phases.
