Description: Three species of hoverflies removed from the Dutch list (Diptera: Syrphidae)\nDoubtful records of three hoverfly species from the Netherlands are discussed. Two specimens\npreviously identified as Cheilosia acutilabris Becker, 1894 belong to C. proxima (Zetterstedt,\n1843). Five specimens previously identified as Melangyna ericarum (Collin, 1946) belong to\nM. umbellatarum (Fabricius, 1794). Four species previously identified as Paragus finitimus\nGoeldlin de Tiefenau, 1974 are now considered to belong to P. bicolor (Fabricius, 1794). These\nresults lead to the conclusion that Cheilosia acutilabris, Melangyna ericarum and Paragus finitimus\nshould be removed from the Dutch species list.

Description: Two species of hoverflies added to the Dutch list (Diptera: Syrphidae)\nChrysogaster basalis Loew, 1857 and Chrysotoxum elegans Loew, 1841 are recorded for the first time\nfor the fauna of the Netherlands. Both species were found in the southern part of the province\nLimburg, the southernmost part of the country. A female of C. basalis was collected on\n24.vii.1999 on the flowers of Daucus carota along chalk grassland. A male of C. elegans was\ncollected on 14.viii.2002 in a heathland area. Both species have a southern distribution in\nEurope and the Dutch records mark the northern boundaries of their ranges.
