Abstract A detailed description is provided of a computational model that has been developed for assessing the sensitivity of electrocardiographic measurements to changes in electrode placement, torso shape, conductivities of internal organs and driving currents from the heart. By invoking asurface admittance and theextended boundary condition (concepts which have been exploited successfully in recent years by radio scientists) the model has been simplified. Representative numerical results are presented, illustrating the practical utility of the model.
