    Notes: Fully automatic three-dimensional mesh generation is a fundamental requirement for automating the numerical solution of partial differential equations. Two techniques in particular - the octree and Delaunay approaches - have been used towards this end. A method that combines both approaches to fully automatic mesh generation is presented here. The resulting algorithm provides the linear growth rate and divide-and-conquer approach of the octree method with the simplicity and optimal properties of the Delaunay triangulation.

    Notes: Für die Gleichgewichtsbeladung von alkalischen Salzlösungen mit CO2 wird ein Ausdruck abgeleitet, der vier Gleichgewichtskonstanten enthält. Die Form der Gleichgewichtskurven wird vor allem durch die Größe der Dissoziationskonstanten der bei der Absorption gebildeten Säure bestimmt. Je nach dem Zahlenwert dieser Konstanten können drei Typen von Gleichgewichtskurven unterschieden werden, die zu verschiedenen Anwendungsbereichen in der Technik führen. Es wird ein Verfahren zum Auswaschen von CO2 mit wäßrigen Lösungen von Triäthanolamin beschrieben, das besonders bei höheren Partialdrücken von CO2 im Rohgas Vorteile bietet.

    Notes: One approach to fully automatic mesh generation in two and three dimensions is to generate and triangulate a set of points within and on the boundary of a geometry using the properties of the Delaunay triangulation. Because the point data generate mesh topology of greater dimension, it is necessary to insure topological compatibility and perform classification of the resulting mesh with respect to the original geometry. Necessary and sufficient conditions for classification of mesh topology on three-dimensional planar geometry are given, as well as a discussion of the more complex case of curved geometry. This paper also presents conditions to insure topological compatibility along with techniques for identifying and resolving cases of incompatibility.

    Mobile Bay turbidity study (1978)

    Description: The termination of studies carried on for almost three years in the Mobile Bay area and adjacent continental shelf are reported. The initial results concentrating on the shelf and lower bay were presented in the interim report. The continued scope of work was designed to attempt a refinement of the mathematical model, assess the effectiveness of optical measurement of suspended particulate material and disseminate the acquired information. The optical characteristics of particulate solutions are affected by density gradients within the medium, density of the suspended particles, particle size, particle shape, particle quality, albedo, and the angle of refracted light. Several of these are discussed in detail.

    Sea truth and environmental characterization studies of Mobile Bay, Alabama, utilizing ERTS-1, data collection platforms (1977)

    Description: The paper reports on the scientific results obtained during a feasibility study that evaluated the potential of using ERTS data collection platforms (DCPs) in the coastal environment of Mobile Bay, Alabama. The utility of instrumented buoys operated in a coastal marine environment as ERTS DCPs is demonstrated. It is shown that these platforms are capable of providing both sea-truth data for ERTS imagery studies and time-series data for event monitoring and/or environmental characterization studies.
