Notes:
Summary Two types of inclusion complex forming compounds, crown ethers and cyclodextrins, were investigated for their ability to separate hydrogen and deuterium homologues. A number of different crown ethers, 15-crown-5, 18-crown-6 and 24-crown-8, as well as examples of α, β and γ cyclodextrins were evaluated with ten homologues. The size of the inclusion cavity was found to be the major factor affecting separation although other factors such as cavity environment and cyclodextrin ring substituents also play a role in the separation process.
