Description / Table of Contents:
In this work, the thermal properties of polythiourethanes (PUR) are investigated on the base of oligobutadiene dithiol, decanedithiol-1,10, and 4,4′-diphenylmethane diisocyanate using a differential microcalorimeter. Thermally not pretread samples showed a “domain” structure caused by the agglomeration of the polar “hard segments” on the one hand and the nonpolar “soft segments” on the other. The hard segments exert little influence on the glass transition temperature of the soft ones (about 200 K). It is very probable that low molecular crystalline portions occur. Heating leads to the homogenization of the PUR. The glass temperature proves to be clearly dependent on the composition of the samples. Assuming that apart from the oligobutadiene new segments take part in the glass transition observed, the equation of Fox can be applied. Furthermore, heating leads to chemical changes in the polymers, caused by processes of thermooxydative decomposition, cyclization, and cross-linkage.
Notes:
