Description: This dataset contains the amoA genes on three size-fractionated (〉 3.0 μm, 0.45‒3.0 μm, and 0.22‒0.45 μm) ammonia oxidizers and relevant environmental parameters observed along a salinity gradient in the Pearl River estuary, China during July 2014. The temperature and salinity were determined using the CTD system. Gene-related data was obtained using qPCR analysis. Nutrients were determined by an automatic analysis system (Bran-Lube, GmbH). All data were aimed to distinguish the distribution and bioactivity of ammonia-oxidizing bacteria (AOB) and ammonia-oxidizing archaea (AOA) in the Pearl River estuary.

Description: This dataset includes nitrate isotopes and relevant hydrographic and chemical parameters (temperature, salinity, nitrate, phosphate, dissolved oxygen, and so on) observed in the South China Sea basin and the adjoining western North Pacific Ocean during 2011 and 2014. Nitrate isotopes were measured by the denitrifier method. Nutrients were analyzed onboard using a Technicon AA3 Auto-Analyzer (Ban-Lube, GmbH). Dissolved oxygen (DO) was determined using the Winkler method. These data were used to elucidate nitrate dynamics in these regions.

Notes: We report on an approach of using AlN/AlGaN superlattices (SLs) for threading-dislocation-density reduction to grow high quality thick AlGaN on sapphire. Using x-ray diffraction (XRD) measurements and etch pits counting by atomic force microscopy, we show that the insertion of AlN/AlGaN SLs suppresses the material mosaicity and decreases the threading dislocation density by two orders of magnitude, and then eliminates cracking. Dislocation densities deduced from the XRD results and those from chemical etching are in a good agreement. © 2002 American Institute of Physics.

Notes: A new low-toxicity gelcasting system with a 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate (HEMA) monomer was applied for casting of alumina ceramics. Polyvinyl pyrrolidone (PVP) was adopted for modifying the homogeneity of the PHEMA (poly-HEMA) gel. The rheological properties of alumina suspension in the HEMA–PVP premix solution were studied. After preparation of a concentrated alumina suspension, homogenous alumina green body with a relatively high strength of about 19 MPa could be formed through the PVP-modified HEMA system. Dense complex-shaped ceramic parts can be successfully produced through the system. Besides, the surface exfoliation phenomenon that seems inherent to the acrylamide gelcasting system could also be eliminated by using the PVP-modified HEMA system. Analysis of the interaction of HEMA and PVP suggested that the improved microstructure and strength homogeneity, as well as the elimination of surface exfoliation in the new system, should be attributed to the intermolecular hydrogen bonding formed between PHEMA and PVP molecules.

Notes: The powder characteristics of two types of Si3N4 (referred to as FD1 and FD2), as well as the rheological properties of their aqueous suspensions, were studied in this paper. There are distinctive differences in size distribution, soluble counterions, and surface groups. Highly concentrated aqueous slurries could not be prepared from these two as-received powders. Acid cleaning and calcination improved the solids loading of their aqueous slurries, but the improvement varied with the powder. For the as-received FD1 powder, poor dispersibility was caused by high-valence counterions, which can be eliminated through acid-cleaning. However, for the as-received FD2 powder, it was the surface group of amine structures and carbon-hydrogen bonding that limited the dispersibility. The calcination of FD2 can remove the amine structure and carbon-hydrogen bonding and improve the slurry's rheological properties almost perfectly. For acid-cleaned and calcined FD1, and calcined FD2, the solids loading of their aqueous suspensions reached 50 vol% with a viscosity below 300 mPa·s.
