Alloxan bildet mit dreiwertigem Cer einen löslichen gelben Komplex. Die Zusammensetzung des Komplexes wurde nach der JOB-Methode mit colorimetrischen und konduktometrischen Messungen bestimmt. Es bildet sich zwischen Ce3+-Ionen und Alloxan nur ein 1:2-Komplex. Die maximale Farbstärke wird bei pH-Werten zwischen 3,2 und 3,4 erreicht. Die durch die Komplexbildung bewirkte Farbreaktion tritt momentan ein; sie kann für die Bestimmung von Ce3+-Ionen in Lösung benutzt werden.

Alloxan forms a soluble, yellow complex with trivalent cerium. The composition of the complex has been determined by means of JOBS continuous variation method by applying it to colorimetric and conductometric measurements. The results indicate the formation of only a 1:2 complex between Ce2+-ions arid alloxan. The complex gives maximum colour intensity between pE1 3.2 and 3.4. The colour reaction due to complex formation is instantaneous and may be used for the detection of Ce3+-ions in solution.
