Notes: Abstract A more general relativistic Vlasov equation has been derived in the framework of relativistic quantum hadron dynamical theory. In the small amplitude limit we use this Vlasov equation to study the isovector giant dipole resonances built on groundstate in spherical nuclei16O,40Ca,90Zn and208Pb. The results show that the spin-orbit coupling and the non-linear terms of scalar meson can influence the resonance energies to a certain extent comparing with those obtained from the non-relativistic Vlasov equation approach and are in good agreement with the experimental ones, especially for the case which vacuum fluctuation is included.

Notes: Abstract —LDDA (Lagrangian Discontinuous Deformation Analysis) is a new numerical analysis method to deal with the problems of discontinuous deformation in elastic block systems. The method is based on DDA (Discontinuous Deformation Analysis) and the domain decomposition algorithm. Due to the use of the contact criteria of the DDA, it is not necessary to define a slide line in advance for contact problems, which is needed in the classical FEM. The method prevails over the penalty method in the satisfaction of constrain conditions. By using the domain decomposition algorithm, the efficiency in solving equations is improved greatly.¶The process of solving a multi-elastic body system by LDDA is as follows: 1) to find total contact points (Lagrange multiplier points) among the elastic bodies according to the contact criteria of the DDA; 2) to solve the contact forces (Lagrange multipliers) by domain decomposition method; and 3) to calculate the displacement and stress caused by the contact forces and other loads by the FEM for each elastic body.¶In this paper, the method is used to model the dynamic process of the Tangshan earthquake (M s = 7.8) of 28 July, 1976 and to directly obtain the quasi-static and dynamic dislocations, shear stress drop, and rupture velocity of the earthquake fault.¶The simulation shows that the method can be used to efficiently solve the dynamic problems of earthquakes. It is also applicable for solving rock-engineering problems as a multi-elastic body system.

Notes: Abstract We have obtained results for converting focused laser radiation to X-ray line emissions in laser-heated NaF and Cu plasmas. These plasmas were used as the pump source for studying the phenomena of inner-shell photoionization of Zn-like ionic states. Soft X-ray emissions from transitions of 3d 94s 2 → 3d 104p in Cu-like Pd and Ag ions were observed.

Notes: Abstract The present paper studies the reliability-based structural optimization of the civil engineering in the seismic zone. The objective is to minimize the sum of construction material cost and the expected failure loss under severe earthquake, which is obtained by the sum of the products of the failure probability and its failure losses for the important failure modes. The set of constraints includes the deterministic constraints, and the constraints based on structural reliability – the reliability index constraints of structural element failure for the serviceability state under minor earthquake and the failure probability of the structural system for the ultimate limit state under severe earthquake. By introducing the load roughness index, the structural system reliability computation under hazard load can be greatly simplified, which is approximately determined by its weakest failure mode. Finally, the numerical example of high rising shear RC frame is calculated.

Notes: Abstract Two kinds of phenomenon have been observed when a liquid drop falls to a surface of the same liquid. The first, which can nearly always be observed, involves splash and some degree of penetration and “cleavage” and the conditions for this occurrence are identified. The experimental observations are compared with previous computational results. The second kind of colliding phenomena can be observed only by chance in an ordinary falling drop experiment and appears to be random. It includes the two phenomena investigated in this paper: the floating drop and the rolling drop.

Notes: Abstract. Three principles, namely, a neutrality principle, a stoichiometry principle, and a coordination principle are proposed as criteria for building up cluster models of metal oxides. Particular attention is focused on how to cut out a stoichiometric cluster which possesses the smallest boundary effect for a given cluster size. Several criteria for determining self-consistently the magnitudes of embedding point charges are discussed. The problem of how the methods of embedding affect the calculated electronic properties of the substrate cluster and the adsorption properties are investigated. It is that a better cutout cluster, which interacts less with its surroundings, would depend less on the embedding scheme, while a better description of the surroundings would improve the quality of the cutout cluster. A simple point charge model provides a stable model of the oxide surface as well as of adsorption on the surface.
