    Description: Herein, the problem of target tracking in wireless sensor networks (WSNs) is investigated in the presence of Byzantine attacks. More specifically, we analyze the impact of Byzantine attacks on the performance of a tracking system. First, under the condition of jointly estimating the target state and the attack parameters, the posterior Cramer–Rao lower bound (PCRLB) is calculated. Then, from the perspective of attackers, we define the optimal Byzantine attack and theoretically find a way to achieve such an attack with minimal cost. When the attacked nodes are correctly identified by the fusion center (FC), we further define the suboptimal Byzantine attack and also find a way to realize such an attack. Finally, in order to alleviate the negative impact of attackers on the system performance, a modified sampling importance resampling (SIR) filter is proposed. Simulation results show that the tracking results of the modified SIR filter can be close to the true trajectory of the moving target. In addition, when the quantization level increases, both the security performance and the estimation performance of the tracking system are improved.

    Description: Model-free reinforcement learning is a powerful and efficient machine-learning paradigm which has been generally used in the robotic control domain. In the reinforcement learning setting, the value function method learns policies by maximizing the state-action value (Q value), but it suffers from inaccurate Q estimation and results in poor performance in a stochastic environment. To mitigate this issue, we present an approach based on the actor-critic framework, and in the critic branch we modify the manner of estimating Q-value by introducing the advantage function, such as dueling network, which can estimate the action-advantage value. The action-advantage value is independent of state and environment noise, we use it as a fine-tuning factor to the estimated Q value. We refer to this approach as the actor-dueling-critic (ADC) network since the frame is inspired by the dueling network. Furthermore, we redesign the dueling network part in the critic branch to make it adapt to the continuous action space. The method was tested on gym classic control environments and an obstacle avoidance environment, and we design a noise environment to test the training stability. The results indicate the ADC approach is more stable and converges faster than the DDPG method in noise environments.

    Description: Invar alloys with both high strength and low thermal expansion are urgently needed in fields such as overhead power transmission, aero-molds, and so on. In this paper, Cr was introduced as a cost-efficient alloying element into the Fe-36Ni binary invar alloy to increase its mechanical strength. Our results confirmed that fine Cr7C3 precipitants, together with some Fe3C, in the invar alloy aged at 425 °C could be obtained with a short aging time. Those precipitants then grew and aggregated at grain or sub-grain boundaries with an increase in aging time. Simultaneously, mechanical strength and coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE) parabolically varied with the increase in aging time. The sample aged at 425 °C for 7 h presented a maximum strength of 644.4 MPa, together with a minimum coefficient of thermal expansion of 3.30 × 10−6 K−1 in the temperature range of 20–100 °C. This optimized result should be primarily attributed to the precipitation of the nanoscaled Cr7C3.

    Description: Mobile payment apps have been widely-adopted, which brings great convenience to people’s lives. However, at the same time, user’s privacy is possibly eavesdropped and maliciously exploited by attackers. In this paper, we consider a possible way for an attacker to monitor people’s privacy on a mobile payment app, where the attacker aims to identify the user’s financial transactions at the trading stage via analyzing the encrypted network traffic. To achieve this goal, a hierarchical identification system is established, which can acquire users’ privacy information in three different manners. First, it identifies the mobile payment app from traffic data, then classifies specific actions on the mobile payment app, and finally, detects the detailed steps within the action. In our proposed system, we extract reliable features from the collected traffic data generated on the mobile payment app, then use a series of well-performing ensemble learning strategies to deal with three identification tasks. Compared with prior works, the experimental results demonstrate that our proposed hierarchical identification system performs better.

    Description: (1) Background: Antibiotics are frequently used on farm animals, making animal husbandry a relatively large source of antibiotic pollution of the environment. The present study aims to isolate and acclimatize antibiotic-degrading bacterial strains for penicillin V potassium (PVK) from the contaminated soil of a pig farm. (2) Methods: Bacterial strains were isolated and acclimatized by continuous enrichment of cultures with PVK as the sole carbon source. The antibiotic susceptibility test, thiol mercury salt ultraviolet spectrophotometry (TMSUS), morphological observations, and 16S rDNA sequence analysis were used to identify and characterize the isolated strains. (3) Results: Four bacterial isolates (denoted as LM-1, LM-2, LM-3, LM-4) were obtained, and two of them (LM-1, LM-2) with the highest degradation rates were identified to belong to the same genera as Bacillus. These two isolates were found to be resistant to PVK antibiotic in an antibiotic sensitivity test. The TMSUS indicated that the strains LM-1 and LM-2 had good performance in PVK degradation (68% for LM-1, 66% for LM-2 in 48 h) when the initial PVK concentration was about 100 μg/mL. (4) Conclusions: Two bacterial strains isolated from the soil on a pig farm are effective in degrading PVK and can be potentially used for bioremediation of PVK antibiotic-contaminated soils.

    Description: Novel hot electron-emitting working electrodes and conventional counter electrodes were created by screen printing. Thus, low-cost disposable electrode chips for bioaffinity assays were produced to replace our older expensive electrode chips manufactured by manufacturing techniques of electronics from silicon or on glass chips. The present chips were created by printing as follows: (i) silver lines provided the electronic contacts, counter electrode and the bottom of the working electrode and counter electrode, (ii) the composite layer was printed on appropriate parts of the silver layer, and (iii) finally a hydrophobic ring was added to produce the electrochemical cell boundaries. The applicability of these electrode chips in bioaffinity assays was demonstrated by an immunoassay of human C-reactive protein (i) using Tb(III) chelate label displaying long-lived hot electron-induced electrochemiluminescence (HECL) and (ii) now for the first time fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC) was utilized as an a low-cost organic label displaying a short-lived HECL in a real-world bioaffinity assay.

    Description: Three-dimensional (3D) printing is regarded as a critical technological-evolution in material engineering, especially for customized biomedicine. However, a big challenge that hinders the 3D printing technique applied in biomedical field is applicable bioink. Silk fibroin (SF) is used as a biomaterial for decades due to its remarkable high machinability and good biocompatibility and biodegradability, which provides a possible alternate of bioink for 3D printing. In this review, we summarize the requirements, characteristics and processabilities of SF bioink, in particular, focusing on the printing possibilities and capabilities of bioink. Further, the current achievements of cell-loading SF based bioinks were comprehensively viewed from their physical properties, chemical components, and bioactivities as well. Finally, the emerging issues and prospects of SF based bioink for 3D printing are given. This review provides a reference for the programmable and multiple processes and the further improvement of silk-based biomaterials fabrication by 3D printing.

    Description: Abundant extant literature emphasizes the impact of board members attributes’ influence on environmental information disclosure. Considering the voluntary nature of environmental information disclosure, executives have strong managerial discretion when they make such decisions, so this article focuses on top managers’ influence on environmental information disclosure. We hypothesize that top managers’ educational background and age will affect companies’ environmental decision. The hypotheses are verified with the data from Chinese listed manufacturing companies. As the results show, a Master of Business Administration (MBA) educational background and average age of top managers positively affect environmental information disclosure, while the impact of legal educational background is negative. The company’s environmental performance plays a U-shaped moderating effect on the relationship between MBA educational background and environmental information disclosure.

    Description: Due to the complex terrain, sparse precipitation observation sites, and uneven distribution of precipitation in the northeastern slope of the Qinghai–Tibet Plateau, it is necessary to establish a precipitation estimation method with strong applicability. In this study, the precipitation observation data from meteorological stations in the northeast slope of the Qinghai–Tibet Plateau and 11 geographical and topographic factors related to precipitation distribution were used to analyze the main factors affecting precipitation distribution. Based on the above, a multivariate linear regression precipitation estimation model was established. The results revealed that precipitation is negatively related to latitude and elevation, but positively related to longitude and slope for stations with an elevation below 1700 m. Meanwhile, precipitation shows positive correlations with both latitude and longitude, and negative correlations with elevation for stations with elevations above 1700 m. The established multivariate regression precipitation estimating model performs better at estimating the mean annual precipitation in autumn, summer, and spring, and is less accurate in winter. In contrast, the multivariate regression mode combined with the residual error correction method can effectively improve the precipitation forecast ability. The model is applicable to the unique natural geographical features of the northeast slope of the Qinghai–Tibet Plateau. The research results are of great significance for analyzing the temporal and spatial distribution pattern of precipitation in complex terrain areas.

    Description: The satisfiability modulo theories (SMT) problem is to decide the satisfiability of a logical formula with respect to a given background theory. This work studies the counting version of SMT with respect to linear integer arithmetic (LIA), termed SMT(LIA). Specifically, the purpose of this paper is to count the number of solutions (volume) of a SMT(LIA) formula, which has many important applications and is computationally hard. To solve the counting problem, an approximate method that employs a recent Markov Chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) sampling strategy called “flat histogram” is proposed. Furthermore, two refinement strategies are proposed for the sampling process and result in two algorithms, MCMC-Flat1/2 and MCMC-Flat1/t, respectively. In MCMC-Flat1/t, a pseudo sampling strategy is introduced to evaluate the flatness of histograms. Experimental results show that our MCMC-Flat1/t method can achieve good accuracy on both structured and random instances, and our MCMC-Flat1/2 is scalable for instances of convex bodies with up to 7 variables.
