Description: Cavitation is an unsteady phenomenon, which is nearly inevitable in pumps. It would degrade the pump performance, generate vibrations and noises, and even erode pump flow passage components. The double suction centrifugal pump at design flow rate and large flow rate is numerically simulated using the k-ω turbulence model and the mass transport cavitation model. As a result, the calculated variation of pump head with pump inlet pressure agreed well with the experimental data. The results demonstrate that the numerical model and method can accurately predict the cavitation flows in a double suction centrifugal pump. The cavitation characteristics are analysed in great details. In addition, based on the calculation results, the reason that the plunge of pump head curve is revealed. It is found that the steep fall of pump head happens when the cavity reaches the blade to blade throat and the micro-vortex group appears at the back of the blade suction side. At the same time, t...

Description: The 40 T hybrid magnet under construction at High Magnetic Field Laboratory of Chinese Academy of Sciences (CHMFL) consists of an 11 T superconducting outsert with clear bore of 800 mm and a resistive insert with clear bore of 32 mm. The outsert made of Nb 3 Sn CICC is cooled with 4.5 K forced flow helium. The main cryogenic system includes a helium refrigerator (360 W at 4.5 K) and a helium distribution system for the cooling of coils, structures, transfer line and current leads. The helium refrigerator was successfully commissioned and put into operation in 2012. The helium distribution system installation will be completed in December 2015. This paper discusses the design of cryogenic system and recent progress in construction.

Description: This paper describes the relationship between tool eccentricity and surface formation of periodic banded structures in friction stir welding. Motion characteristics of welding tool are calculated to explore the forming mechanism of banded structures. The results reveal that the welding tool motion differences on advancing side and retreating side caused by eccentricity are crucial for the formation of banded structures. The crests and troughs of banded structures form during tool motion on retreating side and advancing side, respectively.

Description: Evapotranspiration (ET) is the process that returns water from the earth surface to the atmosphere and therefore completes the hydrologic cycle. The collection and analysis of crop ET at different spatial and temporal scales has received much attention. Studies showed that the coefficients of variation( CV ) for wheat ET at different growing stages is large with CV ranging from 30% to 50% even for "apparent" homogeneous fields of experimental farmland. During the stage of tillering-shooting, shooting-heading and heading-milk, the CV of accumulative ET decreased with the increasing of measurement time scales. The spatial variation analysis of ET based on the semivariance function showed that ET data obeyed a normal distribution and optimal spherical models. At the original tillering-shooting stage, the spatial structure of accumulative ET was the strongest, and then turned to sharply reduce at the shooting-heading stage. The temporal stability of ET was also im...

Description: In order to improve the bio-tribology properties of Ti6A14V surface, the bionic carp scale appearance pattern on Ti6A14V surface was prepared by laser surface texturing technology. The ball-disc reciprocating linear tribological experiment under different lubricants with dry friction was carried out by MRTR multifunction friction and wear testing machine using ZrO2/Ti6A14V as friction pair. The wear scar morphology of the sample surface was observed by SEM. The results show that for dry friction, the friction factor of the bionic carp scale morphology Ti6A14V reduces by 0.23 than those without bionic carp scale morphology, a decline of 45%. Under different lubrication conditions, the friction factors of samples with the bionic carp scale are increased in varying degrees with the increase of size of bionic texturing. The friction factor with same specimen under different lubrication conditions according to the ascending order are 0.5g/dl of sodium hyaluronate +0.5g/dl-γglobulin a...

Description: The controllable manipulation of materials properties has always attracted broad interests since there exists the possibility to identify the relationship between different electronic states, and even discover new states. Here we report the electrochemical intercalation of cetyltrimethylammonium (CTA + ) into 2H–TaS 2 . The single layer TaS 2 is intercalated with CTA + cations and the direction of CTA + is approximately perpendicular to the lamellar structure of TaS 2 . With this facile and efficient method, the superconducting transition temperature ( T c ) of pristine TaS 2 increases from 0.8 K to the maximum 3.7 K, showing a dome-like behavior. The Hall coefficient measurement indicates that the intercalated CTA + cations introduce electrons to this system. The present results demonstrate that electrochemical intercalation method is effective in tuning the materials properties and may...

Description: A numerical analysis has been carried out on a 16 mm tip diameter radial-axial flow cryogenic turboexpander using He, in order to directly compare performance characteristics by varying the vaneless space. A reference nozzle with radial clearance 0.1 mm was used in the helium liquefaction system, and six other nozzles were designed with radial clearance of 0.3 mm, 0.5 mm, 0.8 mm, 1.0 mm, 1.2 mm and 1.5 mm. As part of the design process a series of CFD simulations were carried out in order to guide design iterations towards achieving a matched flow capacity for each design. In this way the variations in the stage efficiency could be attributed to the different vaneless space only, thus allowing direct comparisons to be made. The variation in computed efficiency was used to recommend optimum value of the ratio of the nozzle vane trailing edge radius to the rotor leading edge radius ( R te / r le ).

Description: Considering the influence of joint clearance on the motion error, repeated positioning accuracy and overall position of the machine, this paper presents simulation analysis of a packaging robot — 2 degrees of freedom(DOF) planar parallel robot based on the characteristics of high precision and fast speed of packaging equipment. The motion constraint equation of the mechanism is established, and the analysis and simulation of the motion error are carried out in the case of turning the revolute clearance. The simulation results show that the size of the joint clearance will affect the movement accuracy and packaging efficiency of the packaging robot. The analysis provides a reference point of view for the packaging equipment design and selection criteria and has a great significance on the packaging industry automation.
