    Description: The TC8 titanium alloy was isothermally compressed at 1133 K and 1213 K in the (?+?) two phase region. The microstructural evolution and restoration mechanism in the ? and ? phases were characterized by optical microscopy and transmission electron microscopy. The results show a significant effect of phase content on the microstructural evolution and restoration mechanism. The grain refinement occurs in the ? phase at both temperatures, but in the ? phase only at the higher temperature of 1213 K. This difference in microstructural evolution is attributed to the different temperature dependence of restoration mechanisms in the two phases. A significant increase in the volume fraction of ? phase makes the restoration mechanism in the ? phase change from dynamic recovery (DRV) to dynamic recrystallization (DRX), which subsequently induces the ? grain refinement.

    Description: A Curvature Correction model (CCM) based on the original k- ##IMG## [http://ej.iop.org/icons/Entities/epsilon.gif] {epsilon} model is proposed to simulate unsteady cavitating flows. The objective of this study is to validate the CCM model and further investigate the unsteady vortex behaviors of cavitating flows around a Clark-Y hydrofoil. Compared with the original k- ##IMG## [http://ej.iop.org/icons/Entities/epsilon.gif] {epsilon} model, predicted results are improved in terms of the cavity detachment and hydrofoil fluctuations. Results show that streamline curvature correction of CCM model overcomes the over-predictions of turbulence kinetic energy and eddy viscosity in cavitating vertical region with the original k- ##IMG## [http://ej.iop.org/icons/Entities/epsilon.gif] {epsilon}

    Description: Compositional analysis is important to interrogate spectral samples for direct analysis of materials in agriculture, environment and archaeology, etc. In this paper, multi-variate analysis (MVA) techniques are coupled with laser induced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS) to estimate quantitative elemental compositions and determine the type of the sample. In particular, we present a new multivariate analysis method for composition analysis, referred to as "spectral unmixing". The LIBS spectrum of a testing sample is considered as a linear mixture with more than one constituent signatures that correspond to various chemical elements. The signature library is derived from regression analysis using training samples or is manually set up with the information from an elemental LIBS spectral database. A calibration step is used to make all the signatures in library to be homogeneous with the testing sample so as to avoid inhomogeneous signatures that might be caused by different sampling c...

    Description: This research focuses on studying levitating forces of droplets by utilizing a refining process known as electromagnetic levitation(EML). With the mathematical predictions, the levitating forces were described by a mathematical model in this article. Combined with theory analysis, the balancing phenomenon was also investigated in silicon-iron systems. The research found that the relationship between droplets position and levitation forces was linear. As EML system was a multi-induction, the levitating forces generation was affected by the properties of droplet, quality and size. The electromagnetic properties of the droplets were mainly the reasons for the levitation force to change from heating process before melting. EML droplet getting its melting point, electromagnetic properties of EML droplet were fixed due to the droplets absorbing latent heat. The results of this investigation will be used for vacuum electromagnetic levitation technology, and solar grade silicon samples ...

    Description: Due to the strong reactivity of alkaline metals and the easy formation of the impurity phase, the superconducting transition temperature ( T c ) of alkaline metals intercalated FeSe is usually limited to 45 K. To avoid the formation of impurity and improve the T c , we intercalate a more chemically inert organic ion (rather than the chemically reactive alkaline metals) into FeSe single crystal in this report. A new FeSe-based superconductor, namely (TBA) 0.3 FeSe, with T c of 50 K, is synthesized by intercalating FeSe single crystal with organic ion tetrabutyl ammonium (TBA + ) via an electrochemical intercalation method, which has the highest T c among FeSe-based bulk superconductors. The structure of the organic ion intercalated product consists of the alternate stacking of monolayer FeSe and the organic molecule. The superconductivity of (TBA) 0.3 FeSe is confirmed by both the magn...

    Description: To test for compliance with the D-2 standard for ballast water management convention of the International Maritime Organization, the bacteriological quality of ship’s ballast water is determined to evaluate the risk of invasion of non-indigenous species both onboard ship and in Port. In this article, hydrodynamic flow focusing particles viewed through a microfluidic resistive pulse sensor (MRPS) was used to detect the pathogenic bacteria from ship’s ballast water. Escherichia coli and Enterococci were addressed as bacterial indicators to determine of their characteristic and concentration. The system provided the individual particle-by-particle readout in rather large 20 μm x 10 μm x 8 μm (length x width x height) horizontal rectangular microchannel duct. The average volume flow rate was 4.5 μl/min. However, it returned online and real time results for a complete of 30 μl sample volume during 15 min. The system was low maintenance, high in sensitivity, good accurac...

    Description: The research is done on the Huangguogan (unique citrus breed in Sichuan, China). The experiment setted 27 groups of “Baoshiling” (self-study compound fertilizer) fertilization treatment to explore the “Baoshiling” different combinations on soil physical and chemical properties of Huangguogan. The results showed that all the combinations had improved the soil of Huangguogan orchard. The combination of A3B2C2 had the best effect. The best Fertilization management measures was “Baoshiling” bud flowering fertilizer 2kg, stable fruit fertilizer 2kg, strong fruit fertilizer 2kg. It could reduce the pH of soil and the bulk density of soil, increase the available nitrogen, available phosphorus, available potassium and urease activity.

    Description: In this paper, the formulation technology of gastric floating tablets of total alkaloids from Chelidonium majus (TAC) was optimized according to its behavior of floating and the release characteristics. Gastric floating tablets were prepared by direct compression with dry powder. The floating time and release performance were used as indexes to evaluate and optimize the formulation. Single factor tests and orthogonal tests were carried out to optimize formulation parameters which impacted properties of TAC gastric floating tablets. The optimal prescription processes were 20% of total alkaloid extracts from Chelidonium majus L. , 15 % HPMCK 15M , 15 % NaHCO 3 and 50 % microcrystalline cellulose PH-101 (MCC). The average release of the drug within 12h was 91.23%, the floating time was 3s, and the duration time was over 12h. In conclusion, the TAC gastric floating tablets prepared by the optimized orthogonal test showed a good floating performance wi...

    Description: Die structure is one of the most important factors that impacts short fibers orientation during extrusion process. As a result, the effects of two kind of die structure which is dam-die and expansion-die on flow field including pressure field, velocity field and the velocity of short fiber and rubber composite material during extrusion process has been researched by Polyflow. The FEA results about the flow field of the short fiber and rubber composite material indicate that, compared with the two kind of dam-die and expansion-die, the dam die is better for short fibers get orientation in rubber matrix during extrusion process than the expansion-die.

    Description: The bottom section of a L-shaped well warps upward, so it is a different type against normal horizontal well and should be designed carefully. With regard to the peculiar geometry of borehole, in this paper, the working string axial force is calculated and the feasibility of string running in and out the hole is discussed. String buckling and bottom sticking are considered. This papers suggested that the tip-tilted section makes string tripping in more difficult, while makes tripping out easier; during tripping out, the ratio between the increase of hook load and sticking force is a certain value; string buckling begins at the kick of point firstly and at the target secondly during tripping in; the friction caused by buckling in the L-shaped well is more obvious than in normal horizontal well; the smaller the string size is, the shorter the largest extending length will be.
