    Notes: The electrical properties of antimony contacts to vacuum cleaved n- and p-type InP(110) surfaces were studied using current-voltage and capacitance-voltage techniques. While the Sb/n-InP(110) interface forms an "ohmic'' contact, an extremely large Schottky barrier was found at Sb/p-InP(110) contacts.

    Notes: In recent photoemission and Raman experiments interfacial layers of indium telluride together with liberated antimony were found to be formed during the molecular beam epitaxial growth of CdTe on InSb(100) at elevated substrate temperatures (TS≥200 °C). We have previously suggested that the application of a sufficiently large Cd overpressure during growth is likely to suppress the formation of interfacial layers and enable successful epitaxial growth of CdTe. In this letter we present Raman spectra revealing that a flux ratio of Cd/Te=3 during growth effectively suppresses indium telluride formation leading to largely improved InSb/CdTe interfaces.

    Notes: Low frequency Raman spectra (6–30 cm−1) of macroscopically ordered multilayers of dipalmitoylphosphatidylcholine (DPPC) were taken as a function of temperature (80–270 K) and for different water contents. A weak band is observed which is shifted from 18.5 to 14 cm−1 between 80 and 270 K. This band is shifted to lower frequencies with increasing water content. In addition, a strong background appears at the Rayleigh line position which grows strongly with increasing temperature. The low frequency band can be explained (1) in terms of an optical mode associated with an antiphase in-plane vibration of two opposing monolayers or it can (2) be attributed to rotational vibrations of the hydrocarbon chains. The softening of this band is attributed to a decrease in the chain orientational order with increasing temperature. The increasing rotational freedom is expected to cause a transition from a monoclinic or orthorhombic to a hexagonal lattice and eventually triggers the Lβ' → Lα chain melting transition (at T=340 K for 5.3 wt. % of water). The appearance of the background can also be attributed to an increasing anharmonicity of the lattice potential upon approaching the phase transition, which leads to mode coupling. The possibility of ferroelectric order due to a collective orientation of the dipole moments of the C–O groups of the glycerol backbone is discussed.

    Notes: Abstract There are essentially two alternatives to analyse the impacts of tax reform proposals on risk-taking: the two-asset model and the certainty equivalent approach. Here risk-taking is defined in terms of the certainty equivalent approach. The paper discusses the effects of current tax reform proposals in the Federal Republic of Germany and in the United States with respect to risk-taking. Among others it is shown that there are unambiguous effects of the reform proposals as far as the upper income class is considered. Furthermore, the paper studies some impacts of the transition from the FRG-scheduleT 88 (coming into force at the beginning of 1988) to an intended schedule characterized by a linearly increasing marginal tax rate.

    Notes: Abstract In April 1981, a quantitative survey (20 stations) of the soft-bottom macroinfauna of the littoral and sublittoral was conducted in a Southern Chilean estuary. A principal component analysis rendered three groups of stations with different substrate conditions. A total of 16 775 animals was collected (40 taxa), with Oligochaeta, Polychaeta and Ostracoda representing 83% of the individuals. Most of the biomass was attributed to Bivalvia (43.7%) and Polychaeta (33.6%). Factor analysis using abundance data of the 21 most abundant taxa rendered three groups of stations in the Q-mode (a cluster analysis rendered 4) and three groups of taxa in the R-mode. One group mainly inhabited the sandy outlet area of the estuary where salinity was highest. Another group of organisms was mainly found in the upper zone of the estuary where salinity was low and the substrate was muddy. The third group was principally distributed in the central part of the estuary and spread from there either to the outlet area or to the upper zone. Some ungrouped taxa were distributed relatively homogeneously within the estuary. It was found that besides substrate properties salinity and turbulence also played an important role in the distribution of organisms in the Río Lingue Estuary.

    Notes: Zusammenfassung Die Perspektive der Spiegelung eines gegebenen Punktes an einer spiegelnden Drehfläche, insbesondere an der Kugel, dem Drehzylinder und am Drehkegel, werden konstruktiv so bestimmt, daß die Schnittpunkte eines festen Kreises mit einer Hyperbel, für die die Asymptoten und ein Punkt festgelegt sind, ermittelt werden. Für die Grundaufgabe, in bezug auf einen spiegelnden Kreis einen in seiner Ebene liegenden Punkt zu spiegeln, werden drei spezielle Lösungen gegeben, wobei nomographische Methoden verwendet sind. Die entwickelten Konstruktionen werden an Beispielen durchgeführt. Die Bildebene für die zu bestimmenden Perspektiven hat dabei stets eine ausgezeichnete Lage gegenüber der spiegelnden Fläche. Die so gezeichneten Bilder müssen nur noch einer zentrischen Kollineation unterworfen werden, falls die Bildebene allgemein liegt. Die angegebenen Konstruktionen sind ohne wesentliche Abänderung auch durchführbar, wenn das AugeO ein uneigentlicher Punkt ist. Dieser Fall der Parallelprojektion von Spiegelungen an Drehflächen gestattet gegenüber dem behandelten der Zentralprojektion keine wesentlichen Konstruktionsvereinfachungen.

    Notes: Zusammenfassung Bei weitgehender Verwendung von Nomogrammen wurden die für die Längsbewegung eines Flugzeugs geltenden Differentialgleichungen (1), (2) und (6) graphisch gelöst. Dabei wurde die Fragestellung den Bedürfnissen der Praxis entsprechend gewählt. In Beispielen wurde der Flug mit konstanter Geschwindigkeit und der geradlinige Flug behandelt. Die Lösung bei vorgegebener Flugbahn oder bei vorgeschriebenem zeitlichen Verlauf des Höhensteuerwinkels kann zur Klärung des Begriffs der Steuerbarkeit eines Flugzeugs bei Längsbewegung dienen. Wird die Propellerkraft konstant, nicht wie in den ausgeführten Beispielen gleich Null, vorausgesetzt, so hei\t das für das (v, t)-Feld des Bahnkurvennomogramms.eine Verschiebung der LeiterΦ″ (ϕ) in der Richtung derη″-Achse, was im Nomogramm z. B. durch eine dieΦ″ (ϕ)-Leiter tragende, parallel zurη″-Achse verschiebbare, zungenähnliche Vorrichtung wie beim Rechenschieber zu erreichen wäre. Das (ϕ, t)-Feld des Bahnkurvennomogramms bleibt von der Propellerkraft unbeeinflu\t, wenn die bahnsenkrechte Komponente des Schraubenzugs vernachlässigt wird. Im (υ, ϕ)-Feld des Bahnkurvennomogramms mu\ die KreisleiterΦ (ϕ) in der Richtung derη-Achse genau so verschoben werden, wie das für dieΦ″ (ϕ)-Leiter des (υ, t)-Feldes nötig war. Auf der verschiebbaren Zunge mü\ten also beide LeiternΦ (ϕ) undΦ″ (ϕ) angebracht werden. Dieses mit verschiebbaren LeiternΦ (ϕ) undΦ″ (ϕ) ausgeführte Nomogramm gestattet auch die Lösung der Aufgabe, wenn die Propellerkraft nicht konstant, sondern etwa vom Wert der Geschwindigkeitυ oder von einer oder mehreren in den Differentialgleichungen auftretenden Grö\en abhängig sein sollte. Für die analytische Lösung der gestellten Aufgaben wäre es nötig, die in Abb. 1 wiedergegebene Abhängigkeit der Luftkraftbeiwerte vom Anstellwinkel α analytisch zu fassen. Die rechnerische Lösung der Differentialgleichungen (1), (2) und (6) ist aber auch dann nur durch Näherung zu erreichen, was die Bereitstellung eines graphischen Verfahrens nahegelegt hat.
