Summary Palladium (II) and gold (III) were separated by ionpair reversed-phase, HPLC with detection at 535 nm. 4,4′-Bis(dimethylamino)thiobenzophenone (TMK) was used as a pre-column complexing agent. The optimum conditions for the separation and determination of Pd(II) and Au(III)-TMK complexes were investigated. The complexes were separated on a Nucleosil C18 column with tetrahydrofuran-water containing acetic acid-sodium acetate buffer, sodium perchlorate and TMK. The proposed method has been used to determine palladium and gold in gold recovery solution and anode mud from copper smelters.
