Notes: Different resonant distributions of current in circular arrays with N=60, 72, and 90 elements are investigated theoretically with the method of symmetrical components and a two-term representation of current in each element. The arrays studied have only one driven element. The remarkable results—which are displayed in a sequence of graphs—indicate that the relative currents in the elements can be distributed in triplets, triplets alternating with singlets, two independent sets of singlets, or one set of singlets. The driving-point impedance of this last distribution is a pure resistance, the Q of the 90-element array is over 30 000, and the half-power beamwidth of each of the 90 sharp peaks in the power pattern is 2°.

Notes: In one space and one time dimension, a class of models of the nonlinear Boltzmann equation is presented that is exactly solvable for all initial conditions. The models have three velocity components and the following desirable properties: (a) conservation of the number of particles; (b) energy conservation; (c) nonlinearity; (d) positivity of distribution functions; and (e) unique equilibrium state (for any given density), which is approached as t→∞. These models are very rich in structure, and some of their simple properties are studied.

Notes: The asymptotic form of the amplitude for the N-rung ladder diagram in cursive-phi3 theory is calculated in the limit s(very-much-greater-than)||t||(very-much-greater-than)m2. The result is proportional to s−1||t||−N+1 times a homogeneous polynomial of degree 2N−2 in ln s and ln||t||. It is not an analytic function of s and t, although the first N+1 derivatives are continuous in the physical region. Points of nonanalyticity occur when ln||t||=γ ln s for γ= (1)/(2) , (1)/(3) ,..., 1/(N−2). The notion of reduced Symanzik functions is introduced. With the aid of these reduced Symanzik functions, a generating function is derived for the leading logarithms of all ladder diagrams.

Notes: Abstract Using the recently discovered property of independent photon emissions at fixed impact distance, an integro-differential equation is set up to give the radiated energy due to beamstrahlung to all orders in the expansion parameter ;L b/ℓ c . HereL b is the bunch length and ℓ c is the coherence length. This integro-differential equation is solved for both the Klein-Gordon case and the physically important Dirac case.

Notes: Abstract One of the major differences between electroweak theory and the better understood quantum electrodynamics is the appearance of quadratic divergences. We discuss this issue using point-splitting regularization. It is shown that these quadratic divergences vanish if a certain mass relation is satisfied. The relation is linear in the squares of all the masses of the theory.

Notes: Abstract This series of papers deals with the problem of finding relations between the parameters of the Standard Model of Glashow, Weinberg and Salam. In this first paper, the method of point splitting, suitably modified, is proposed as a useful regularization. When applied to quantum electrodynamics, this point-split regularization is indeed found to have desirable properties. More specifically, to one loop, the photon is shown to remain massless and the photon-photon scattering amplitude gauge invariant. In the following papers, this point-split regularization is applied to the electroweak theory. In the second paper, a first mass relation is obtained from the quadratic divergences. In the third paper, a second mass relation is found from the Higgs interactions. From these two relations, the masses of the Higgs boson and the top quark are determined theoretically for the Standard Model asm H =190GeV andm t =120GeV.

Notes: Abstract Beamstrahlung is studied for bunches with densities that are transversely non-uniform. By treating an interesting special case analytically, one elicits the consequences of the new stationary phase conditions. Focusing effects are found to be relatively unimportant on the global radiated rate. Results are compared with the previously known case of uniform cylindrical bunches.

Notes: Abstract From theeeH coupling in the electroweak theory, it is found that the one-loop correction is finite (i.e., not logarithmically divergent) when a certain quadratic mass relation is satisfied. When this relation is used together with the one given previously, and the lepton masses are neglected compared with those of theW and theZ, it is found that $$m_H^2 = 9m_Z^2 - 6m_W^2 $$ .
