    Description: A faunistic study of the family Haleciidae from the Strait of Gibraltar and nearby areas has been made; seven species are described, figured and discussed. Information about the zoogeographical distribution, and conditions of substrates are contributed. A key to distinguish the species of this family from the seas of the Iberian Peninsula is presented, and the Iberian Haleciidae are compared with those from the Mediterranean and the British Isles.

    Description: A bibliography is presented of works on non-siphonophoran hydroids (Leptolida) published since 1910, the preceding period being covered by M. Bedot\'s "Mat\xc3\xa9riaux pour servir \xc3\xa1 l\'histoire des Hydro\xc3\xafdes". As the scope of the present taxon (Leptolida) is wider than that studied by Bedot an additional list of Leptolid papers is also given, including a few papers that escaped Bedot\'s attention.

    Description: Five species of the genus Schizotricha Allman, 1883, one of which is new to science, have been studied.\nThe material originates from the Weddell Sea region and from off Elephant Island and it was collected during several antarctic expeditions with the R.V. Tolarstern\'. Each species is described and figured and its systematic position among allied species discussed. The type material of Schizotricha glacialis (Hickson & Gravely, 1907) and S. turqueti Billard, 1906 has been re-examined and is also described and figured.

    Description: The type series of Schizotricha anderssoni J\xc3\xa4derhoim, 1904, collected by the Swedish Antarctic Expedition 1901-1903 and deposited in the collections of the Swedisch National Museum, Stockholm, is redescribed. The type series is composed of two species, the species figured by J\xc3\xa4derhoim (1905) is designated the lectotype of Schizotricha anderssoni. The second species, differing from the other species of the genus, is described as Schizotricha jaederholmi spec. nov.

    Description: The material assigned by Totton (1930) to Oswaldella antarctica (Jaderholm, 1904) and O. bifurca (Hartlaub, 1904) has been re-examined and redescribed. This material shows such important differences with Hartlaub\'s and J\xc3\xa4derholm\'s species and the remaining species of Oswaldella that they are here considered as two new species: O. terranovae spec. nov. and O. tottoni spec, nov., respectively.

    Description: The study of a part of the material collected by the French oceanographic expedition "SEAMOUNT 1" made it possible to identify 21 species and one subspecies of hydroids of the families Haleciidae (4 species), Aglaopheniidae (7 species), Halopterididae (3 species), Kirchenpaueriidae (2 species and one subspecies) and Plumulariidae (5 species). Of these species, 10 have an Atlantic-Mediterranean distribution, 6 are cosmopolites, 4 are known from the north-eastern Atlantic, near to the area studied, and only one, Pseudoplumaria sabinae Ramil & Vervoort, 1992, is momentarily only known from Gorringe and Ampere Banks.

    Description: The type material of Oswaldella billardi Briggs, 1938, has been re-examined and a complete description and figures are presented. The study of that material has allowed to reconsider the systematic position of all the material previously assigned to O. billardi and to determine that part of it belongs to another species. Since it is clearly different from the remaining species of the genus, it is described as Oswaldella erratum spec. nov.\nResumen: Se ha revisado y redescrito el material tipo de Oswaldella billardi Briggs, 1938. Su estudio ha permitido reconsiderar la posici\xc3\xb3n sistem\xc3\xa1tica de todo el material anteriormente asignado a O. billardi y, as\xc3\xad, determinar que parte del mismo pertenece a otra especie. Ya que dicha especie es claramente diferente de las otras especies del g\xc3\xa9nero, se describe como Oswaldella erratum spec. nov.

    Description: An account is given of some hydroids from the Mid-Atlantic Ridge, collected during dives of submersibles "Nautile" (operated by IFREMER, France) and "Alvin" (operated by Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, U.S.A). The specimens came from three main sectors of the ridge: 15 species from localities near hydrothermal fields (540-1727 m) SW of the Azores, five species from an area (2565-3902 m) west of the Cape Verde Islands near Researcher Ridge, and one species from a site (4529-4578 m) within the Vema Fracture zone west of Guinea Bissau. In all, 21 species were distinguished, comprising two anthoathecates and 19 leptothecates. The families Lafoeidae and Sertulariidae were best represented, with six and four species respectively. Halecium profundum spec. nov., from the vicinity of Researcher Ridge, and Zygophylax echinata spec, nov., from the Menez Gwen hydrothermal field area south-west of the Azores, are described. Cladocarpus cartieri was discovered, for just the second time, at another station near the Menez Gwen field. The fauna was comprised largely of deep-water species.\nHowever, some eurybathic boreal species frequent in the neritic zone (e.g. Grammaria abietina, Diphasia margareta, Sertularella tenella, Nemertesia antennina, N. ramosa) were represented at certain stations near the Azores. Also present at one of these stations was the typically shallow-water boreal athecate, Ectopleura larynx. Six of the species (Eudendrium planum, Halecium profundum, spec, nov., Acryptolaria longitheca, Cryptolarella abyssicola, Zygophylax levinseni, and ?Opercularella spec.) were recorded from depths of 3000 m or more. The only species in samples from depths exceeding 4000 m was Cryptolarella abyssicola. None of the species is known to have a medusa stage in its life cycle.

    Description: Twenty-three species, subspecies or varieties of hydroids of the families Thyroscyphidae and Sertulariidae (Leptolida, Hydrozoa, Cnidaria) are described and figured, originating from north-eastern Atlantic localities visited during the CANCAP and Mauritania-II Expeditions of the Rijksmuseum van Natuurlijke Historie (now Nationaal Natuurhistorisch Museum) in the years 1976-1988 and covering waters around Azores, Canary Islands, Madeira, Cape Verde Islands and the Atlantic off Morocco and Mauritania. Besides notes on the variability of the various species in the large material available, vertical and horizontal distributions are discussed. Observations on the considerable material of Sertularella ellisii (Deshayes & Milne-Edwards, 1836) indicate that this species cannot be separated from Sertularella fusiformis (Hincks, 1861); both species are consequently merged under the oldest available name: Sertularella ellisii (Milne Edwards & Haime, 1836). Also included are the European records of Sertularella gaudichaudi Auct., not to be confused with Sertularella gaudichaudi (Lamouroux, 1824) from the Falkland Islands. Sertularella unituba Calder, 1991, is recorded from many localities in the Cape Verde Islands region; these records represent the first from the eastern Atlantic.
