    Description: The ac conductivity of ionic conducting Na 2 NbCdP 3 O 12 is studied over the frequency range of 100Hz to 1MHz at different temperatures. The conduction mechanism of the material is studied using the concept of mismatch and relaxation (CMR) model and the length scale of the ion transport process is studied from the many particle displacement function for various temperature. The non-Debye relaxation mechanism and ionic conduction is analysed through the anomalous relaxation function and it is compared with CMR.

    Description: SCN − ligand based organometallic non-linear optical mercury cadmium chloride thiocyanate (MCCTC) crystals are grown from water plus methanol mixed solvent by slow evaporation technique. The grown crystals are confirmed by single crystal X-ray diffraction analysis which reveals that the MCCTC belongs to rhombohedral system with R3c space group. MCCTC exhibits a SHG efficiency which is nearly 17 times more than that of KDP. The dielectric constant, dielectric loss measurements of the sample have been carried out for different frequencies (100 Hz to 5 MHz) and, temperatures (308 to 388 K) and the results are discussed. Photoconductivity study confirms that the title compound possesses negative photoconducting nature. The surface morphology of MCCTC was also investigated

    Description: The traditional treatment for brain cancer includes surgery, radiotherapy and chemotherapy. The neurosurgeon usually plans and performs the surgery with the help of two dimensional MRI images. If the size and the exact location of tumour is not clear it is difficult to perform a safe surgery and sometimes may cause permanent damage to the normal tissues. Such problems could be minimized by having first hand information regarding the tumour and hence an attempt is made in the present research to create 3D printed models of brain tumours using a medical image processing software based on MRI datasets. The MRI data saved as DICOM (Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine) would be integrated with 3D slicer. 3D printer produces a physical 3D models using STL file generated from 3D slicer. Thus the 3D printed model of Brain Tumour could be served as a tool for preoperative surgical planning.

    Description: The Effectiveness of the erosion process mainly depends on different properties of the erodent as well as the process parameters. The process parameters such as the impingement angle, Eroded velocity and erodent size have the significant effect on the productivity of the erosion mechanism. To investigate properly on aluminium-based metal matrix composite the erodent chosen was micro Al 2 O 3 . A Taguchi based design of experiment was conducted and the effect of the response parameters such as the erosion rate and Signal to Noise ratio (S/N ratio) were studied.     Description: In this research work, development of a multi-response optimization technique was performed, using Genetic Algorithm (GA) optimization technique in wire electrical discharge machining (WEDM) keeping in mind about the priorities of multiple users. Boron carbide has been selected as work piece for experiment. The effect of five process parameters such as pulse on time (T on ), pulse off time (T off ), peak current (IP), water pressure (WP), servo feed (SF), were investigated on the responses such as machining speed and surface roughness (R a ) in WEDM operation. Further, two responses were modeled empirically through regression analysis.     Description: Bamboo is a typical plant native in Asia, been used in many sectors, which also produces a large volume of leaves which goes waste and not find its application for any useful purposes; is often considered as a bio-waste and normally incinerated or dumped; as its applications are not yet fully explored. However, some research work done on bamboo fibers for use as a reinforcement in making polymer matrix composite. In the present piece of research work, the influence of burning/carbonization of bamboo leaves (at different temperatures) have been studied and characterized.     Description: Turboexpanders are a key focus area for Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC), Mumbai, India in the program for development of helium refrigerators and liquefiers for intra departmental requirements. To start with, a turbine impeller with major diameter 16 mm and design speed of 264,000 RPM, suited for use in the 1st stage of a modified Claude cycle/reverse Brayton cycle based standard helium liquefier/refrigerator, is developed. Later on, a second series of turboexpander with the same major diameter (16 mm) and design speed of 260,000 RPM is developed with “splitter” blades at the major diameter end. Yet another turboexpander series, size 16.5 mm and design speed 168,000 RPM, is also developed suited for use in the 2nd stage of a standard helium liquefier/refrigerator. The present article describes these turboexpander development efforts at BARC, including results obtained during field trials with the BARC helium refrigerator and liquefier.
